seems like every day I log on and theres nothing but problems with them, especially the diesels. timing cover oil leaks, turbo, and other issues. I understand issues, but in todays time of massive backordered parts and flat out unavailability, its concerning.. not to mention dealers, at least in my part of the country are undermanned and overwhelmed. 1-2month before they can even look at a vehicle. i know bc I have a grand cherokee that needs service frequently.
I might lose a 1k deposit, but Im seriously considering it. I hate issues.. I live 45min from the nearest dealer. could be a real pain towing it in the mountains.

What do you think about the diesel issues, is it really not that bad? is it a small percentage?

18k miles in. no issues. CEL every once in a while, but i treat it like shit. the diesel is a pain in the ass, but after driving my gas rubicon around i feel the diesel is worth it.

Spot on, problems wouldn't be so bad if the dealer experience was tolerable but it has been shown time and time again it is not. Just saw the latest thing is oil filters are not available for diesel and if they are they are extremely expensive. I am very happy with the Pentastar for my use.

Modern diesels are not worth owning unless most of your driving is towing.

If you really want a diesel, look for a late 90s or early 2000s. EPA have really hurt modern diesel engines. And even if you find an older one, diesel fuel itself is not that good now. Ultra low sulfur fuel burns nearly twice as fast and it is a very "dry" fuel compared to the way it used to be. You need to run an additive to keep the injector seals properly lubricated.

A lot of people puff out their chests on MPG on their diesel, but the upkeep is much higher in the long run.

8k no real issues to date. Had to tighten a few suspension components early on, but really enjoying mine. I know two additional diesel Gladiator owners as well, can't remember their mileage, but they've had them longer than myself. So far, we have all had a great experience and loving that smooth torque. And yes, the mileage has been a perk, 35"s w/ Mopar lift, still rocking 23-24 mpg average. I can relate to your concerns, but it seems, those with issues are more likely to post complaints over those who haven't. Either way, if your confidence is wavering, then do what's best for your piece of mind. We won't judge, lol.

40K no issues on my 3.0L JL. Ready to order a JT soon as a color I like is available.
Only other thing I might consider is a twin-turbo straight 6 hybrid, but that will be a couple years off (if they make it) before I'd trust one.
Go ahead & cancel your order, get you a perfectly adequate 3.6L if that's what you want. Nobody likes a hand-wringer. Make a decision, own it, move forward.

If you have 2nd car then definitely go for the diesel as it is idea setup. If it is your primary then maybe the dealer will change your order to a gas so you get your deposit.

You only hear about problems on the forums because it is a source for solutions. It is unlikely I will post at how well my diesel handled towing (AMAZING) but I will post that I had a CEL while towing. They have glitches so if that will drive you crazy then maybe you should not buy a jeep period. LoL If I had to throw a number out I would guess as high as 3-5% have had catastrophic issues (left them stranded) and as high as 10-15% have been back to the dealer for things less sever things (leaks).

You can also do a Mojave gasser :involve:

Have you driven the diesel? Gas? Might make up your mind quick. Have had both and am 110% happy with the 3.0, 12k no issue.

Fyi the 3.6 isn’t with out issue either. Look at where each engine makes its power, the 3.0 makes it just on throttle, 3.6 at high in the rpm range. 3.0 is 10x more pleasurable to drive.

Only drive mine to the beach on Fridays but did a trip from N. Cal to Salt Lake City. LOVE my diesel after 3 gas Jeeps! First one that is quiet, comfortable, and quick…for a Jeep. Obviously a toy and not a daily driver but damn it makes me happy! No issues but only 6K for mileage.

Lol, it’s great but not reliable enough to be a primary vehicle? If I am spending $50k on a brand new vehicle it better be reliable enough to be my primary, if it is not then it is not the right choice IMO.

3000 miles and about one and half months in and only issue is the front end bottoming at times after I added steel front bumper plus winch. Solved it with 1 1/2” front leveling spacer and sumo bump stops. Forums are a great resource but you have to realize that they are skewed to the people with issues. The people not having issues are out having fun. Not on here complaining or searching for answers. I also feel there are those that because they didn’t choose a certain option, you should not also.
The Diesel is a performance option in my opinion. My mpg is nothing to brag about at this point, lower 20s. After owning a 16 JKU with the 3.6 I did not want it in the JT.
I read the same things you have but still pulled the trigger when a diesel showed that I wanted.
Just a rant on the positive side. LOL. Wish you well with your decision.

Going to the inter-forums for advice and feedback is something like having an ache in your side. You visit webbMD and go away convinced you have cancer.

What you read for the most part, including my own posts, are anecdotes and should be considered worth the value of the pixel text you're viewing. Including this one.

The 15' Grand Cherokee 3.0 has been one of the best cars I've ever owned, with the JTR Eco being the finest JL/JT ever to've inhabited my shop and garage. Having a thorough working knowledge of the powertrain, networks, accessories, and modification changes long before it arrived from Toledo also worked in my favor. At this point in my life and vocation, JL/JT platforms are all I mess with, and that helps, too.

You find issues if you look for issues.
Mine has been nothing but reliable. No issues. -10F for days, cold starts without block heater, short drives, long drives, offroad, snow, rain, potholes... Best overall vehicle for me. If I didn't get the diesel, I would have waited for a F150 Ecoboost. It's the only other truck I was interested in. For my needs it was too big, that's why I wanted something smaller.
Coming from adequately powered cars and SUVs, the 3.6 was not an option. You put your foot down and it does nothing unless it downshifts 2 gears and starts screaming. Not my idea of a good time.
