Stellantis inline-six expected to debut at 2022 New York Auto Show

The new Stellantis inline six-cylinder engine has pretty much reached "open secret" status within the auto industry, but we've yet to see concrete plans for its introduction. Well, the wait is coming to an end. Jeep appears ready to debut its new Hemi replacement at the New York International Auto Show in April.

During a media roundtable in Chicago, Autoblog asked Jeep brand chief Jim Morrison whether he had anything to share regarding the new turbocharged engine; Morrison answered our question with another: "Are you coming to New York?"

This is great news.

Now let's see if they can not drop the ball when it comes to QA on this new design. Something about a first gen engine from Stellantis makes me ?

About time. Now let's hope the new design doesn't have some wacky design layouts: like mounting a plastic oil cooler over the engine and under the intake manifold or require one to remove the intake manifold to change one bank of spark plugs like the Pentastar.

I imagine this will go in the Grand Cherokee relatively quickly. I would be so pissed if I bought a 22 GC and then the next year they threw a new superior (hopefully) engine in it.

You can only test so much, stuff always bubbles up when you put 100k engines on the road. Ford's current issue looks to be a bad batch of valves.

Ram 1/2 ton is falling way behind in tech vs it's competition. Once they get the I-6 and I-6/hybrid then Jeep won't be too far behind methinks. Of course JT gets the hind teat so it will be absolutely Last - at least by then any issues will be revealed.

To be fair, Stellantis has never released a new engine before. So… idk, maybe its even worse than just a new engine, they’ve literally never released one, ever.

The real question is, who actually designed it, the old FCA, or the old PSA?

EDIT: It is an FCA design, from 2019.

What don't you like about the L3B? Its faster than the 5.3 and I got 22mpg average with one.

Yeah, its basically a 6cyl version of the 2L I4 that Fiat engineered. Too bad there isn't a 3.3L multijet 6 coming, too.

It is way less responsive and less torque than the Ford eco boost. Way worse MPG as well. It sounds terrible and just feels underpowered. The 5.3 felt better. The transmission acts weird with that engine too.
