A slight rant here... why the heck did Jeep decide that they should only use the rear bumper sensors for ParkAssist??? They have perfectly functioning sensors in the front bumper used for ACC and Advanced Braking, but when parking those sensors are not used at all...
They do? I thought that was all done through the windshield sensor.

Park assist only handles you backing up into parking spots. Has nothing to do with forward anything.
There are no sensors in the front bumper for ACC or collision avoidance. That's all in the box top center of the windshield where the mirror is. It is RADAR and camera combo up there. You can drive without bumpers at all and ACC and collision avoidance (with or without braking) will work fine.
I'd like to know what you got that has sensors in the front bumper!
I know the WK2 platform has sensors up there because it's got hands-free parking ability. Choose to let it park itself and all you have to do is shift to/from reverse when told to, hands off the wheel. My wife's Jeeps could park while you read a book if you shifted it when told.
These have no front bumper sensors because they don't have the self-parking ability.

In short -
ACC and collision avoidance/advance braking needs no bumper sensors due to the radar and camera which auto high beam also uses.
Park assist doesn't do anything but alert you when backing up out of a spot or yelling because you got too close to your kid's bike in the driveway when backing up. That's all it does.

Since owning multiple Jeeps with ACC, I will never again use normal cruise control. ACC is a real neat thing when you drive on the interstates around here with all the truck traffic and people that cut you off after passing, etc. I never have to touch the brake or gas. It keeps the proper distance, when the traffic on the left clears so I can pass the slow traffic in front of me I simply signal and move into the left lane and it accelerates while I pass. Cruise in heavy traffic sucks and is just plain dangerous, ACC in truck traffic is great.

DOH! ?‍♂

Quite correct...

Yes, that part I knew. But when I still had my head up my @ss thinking there were sensors in the bumper I didn't understand that even while backing up those were not used (like, when backing out of a tight space to tell you your front bumper is about to collide with the car next to you because you're turning too tight).

But, now that I realized they don't exist... the point is moot.

... and you can all go back to the real topic of this thread!

My wife's 10+ year old Armada had front sensors but no self-parking... they were used for exactly what I posted in my reply above, which is where I originally got the idea.

Cheap and/or poor engineering.

Huh? There are no sensors in the front bumper........... and even if they were, why assume poor engineering?

The engineering is fine, actually quite good, it's the public's understanding of it I question at times
?

Ohio eh? Did you pick up your JTR at the Toledo plant? I picked up a BMW Z-4 in Munich once. They gave me a 7% discount, but still had to pay for shipping back to the states, but would have paid that anyway. I thought it would be cool to go see them produce them in Toledo, like we did BMWs in Regensberg.

After it's ordered, you can not make changes before it's built.
I ordered mine on a Saturday and added another option the following Monday. Received a confirmation it was added to the build from the dealer and the window sticker later proved it was.

Correct. We ordered my wife's Grand Cherokee then when I got back home decided maybe we should have added the tow package (also gets you a full-sized spare) so after a couple of days, contacted the dealer who contacted some district guy and it got added. There is going to be a deadline - once the thing is too far along and the build locked in, even if it's not built, good luck on changes, but catch it soon enough and even after the dealer clicks that magic button, some things can be changed. (takes a good dealer, too, though, some will foo-foo your request, others will say "I'll see what I can do and let you know" )

They don't offer that, unfortunately or I would have (at least, if it's available no one ever told me!). I always thought it would be cool to do that for a BMW or Porsche and get to drive them on the autobahn before you put it on a cargo ship...

That Z4 roadster was amazing. On the Autobahn I got up to 140 mph and it was smooth as silk, AND Germans were passing me!

When I tried to add the LED package and steel bumper to my JTRD order Gupton said once VIN has been assigned there is no adding anything.

Yes, note this from my post above - there IS a deadline

In every case I've seen the VIN is not assigned in the first day or two. In fact I didn't get a VIN for mine until a few days had passed. Same for my wife's Jeep.
Since the VIN determines what's in the thing, of course changes won't be made after that point.

I tried to add two days after the order was placed. I didn't think I was going to be able to make the change anyway but was surprised at how fast the VIN was designated.
