QUOTE="ShadowsPapa, post: 895756, member: 25284"] Anything but K&N filters. I've run them and have since removed them since doing some serious research. Somewhere out there is a dyno test with K&N on a Ford pickup - showing a gain - albeit not a large gain, but at RPMs only racers would see - over 5,000 RPM K&N filters let a lot of dirt through and don't last as many hours before they need attention. Their capacity to hold what they do catch is small. If you don't run high RPM, rally race, or otherwise need every last tiny bit out of the engine maybe for towing maximum load and so on, I haven't seen proof such things help "daily drivers". A lot of anecdotal stuff out there - but no proof. Keep in mind the 6.0 pulls through a lot of air - the 3.0 even with turbo - it's not like a huge engine pumping so much air through it's suffocating under normal conditions. [/QUOTE] Yes. I used to think K&N filters were the best until I started sending in my oil for analysis and I kept getting high silicone content, which is dirt. I switched back to paper filters and the silicone went back to normal.

I think it would be your worst mistake. I ran one on my JKU for a few years thinking they so great but mine actually performed better with the stock intake after I removed the K/N. After reading a bunch on them and how they allow dirt to get in the oil, I'll never run one again. The stock intake does a real good job. Just saying, if K/N filters were so great and help performance, FCA would of had them on their stock.

and im wondering if anyone could recommend any mods that can help me with the commute that will also not void the warranty? I want to make sure she goes 1M miles.
Emissions controls will destroy your engine way before 1m miles.

Tunes and emission controls deletes improve engine performance and longevity.

Tunes and deletes void the factory warranty.

Winch mode seems to be hit-or-miss as to when it decides to work on both my JT and the wife's JL.

It's definitely handy for jump starts.

My apologies, i should have been more explicit... performance mods. Also, i do jeep things with my jeep, not just commute.
Mine is my daily driver and like you I do 50 miles each way. I have left mine mostly stock due to this as everything seems to effect the gas mileage. I would like to put some better shocks on eventually which should not effect mileage. I been reading a lot of people changing things out under the hood (Cold Air Intakes, etc) not really sure from reading if its helping things out much. Maybe a good tuning. Mine is not a diesel though.

Trimming the intake boot as shown, is an easy add at no cost. AFE makes an excellent cover should you desire increased capacity for your final drives. SB scoops relieve excess underhood temps that the EcoD has in this platform. And gearing to your tire size is a wise choice should you want to run larger.

Did the air box mod make a noticeable difference in regards to intake temps, and/or acceleration, at normal rpm range, mpg? Have you documented the hood mod?

It did. IAT (Intake Air Temp) pre hit almost 200f on an uphill pull. This was accompanied by a progressive de-power with several network and one hard MIL that was basically "fuel request greater than anticipated". Post was 86f on a 65f warm day recently. Allowing some fresh air via the left scoop to enter made a significant difference.

Yes, it's all on a lengthly thread I did a few weeks back.
So, bottom line, would you recommend doing it along with the SP scoops? If yes, whats the difference between doing that and a cold air? The filter?

Also, does cutting the intake void the warranty?

In all honesty just get the aFe intake when it becomes available. Plug and play. You'll get some minor torque and sound. Unless you go with a tune like GDE forget performance gains from intake/exhaust.

Do you have that aFe on your ecoD?
