Just sharing, the Stant product did not work for me and threw codes. The Mopar Locking ( non-keyed alike) works fine.

That IS kind of odd - my 2012 BMW fuel door couldn't be opened (easily) if the car was locked, but my 2021 JT can/does. You'd think a feature like that would have trickled down by now....
Most Wranglers don't even have fuel doors at all. That won't ever trickle down to jeeps, because the fuel door is an example of "a jeep thing". Flat hood, flat front end, Hinges on the outside, folding windshield, removable doors, bulging fender flares, removable top, hood latches on the outside, and the fuel door are all part of the basic identity.

Besides, you just pry that door open, on any vehicle, with ease.

Also, as noted, you can't siphon from the fuel filler. Like said before, they'll just drill a hole in the tank and get at it from the bottom.

youve got a great big steel skid from the factory, we all do
A great big steel skid that's pretty easy to drill out. That won't stop anyone. These guys come with drills. Still, not a problem I'd worry about too much about. Sure, it happens sometimes. I saw it happened the other day. But not often enough to worry about.

I see people saying get a big steel skid…. Ummm… they can get in from the side of the gas tank by the driveshaft… only way to protect from a no drill situation is to move your gas tank to your bed and lock it away.

Just my view.

is steel harder to drill than plastic?

Did I say it would stop it?

Guy said he wanted to buy armor for his gas tank, I told him he already has it.

Didn't say you did. I'm agreeing with you, that there's no way to stop it. Any drill will go right through a skid plate, with ease, with a good drill bit. The drill won't even know the skid plate is there. Can't stop a determined thief.
Agreeing that there's not much you can do to stop it, skid plates or not.

Too bad coyote-getters are illegal in many places.

Years ago I read where a property owner of an abandoned home rigged a shotgun with string at the front door and a burglar got his leg shot. The property owner was liable for the injuries.

It would be a major frustration to find someone siphoned my gas, but for the pretty low low low chance of that happening I'll run the risk of losing $50 of gas vs the effort of buying a locking gas-cap and dealing with it everytime I fill up.

I could see that going poorly for many reasons, so I understand why that's illegal. Medical assistance? Welfare check?

I agree, but gas here is currently $4.19 per gallon. 22 gallons x 4.19 is $92.18. Tell me where to find gas for 2.27!

I was kinda playing it safe and approximating around not having a topped off tank of gas when it gets siphoned/not having every last drop get sipped up by a thief. Also I forgot gas Gladiator's have a larger tank than the diesel so I'm thinking from the 18 gal tank perspective. In any case, it would suck and probably ruin my evening, but I'm not gonna spend time sweating a low likelihood scenario.

You have a link for buying suggestions?
There are a lot of good options out there. And believe it or not, it's easier to drown yourself in dash cam options than it is in Jeep options. I spun my wheels for a few weeks over-analyzing the crap out of everything, and eventually I started to see some similar trends emerge:

- Parking mode is a must (which means hardwiring), and make sure the camera has a voltage cutoff so it doesn't drain your battery. Be prepared to buy a hardwiring kit if one isn't included.
- Decide for yourself how much resolution and special camera features (like compensation for low light, lens flare, etc) matter to you. That will narrow down your options significantly.
- Having a screen on the back is kind of pointless unless you REALLY want to be able to just watch footage straight from the tiny camera vs. opening it on your phone app via wifi (what I recommend).
- There are a lot of extra bells and whistles that I really don't care about that will drive up cost and drive down performance: 4k resolution, huge memory card capacity, cloud storage, GPS features with alerts, traffic notifications, etc. Again, up to you how much that stuff matters, but I wanted to keep it simple. I have GPS on my phone, I don't need another effing device telling me how to drive, and as long as my camera can catch the color and rough make/model of a vehicle, I don't need it to be able to read the expiration date of the tag on the license plate.

My wife and I ended up deciding on this for her Wrangler: F200 PRO Front + Rear Dash Cam Bundle - Dash Cam | Thinkware USA

It's high definition, cuts off if the battery gets low, small and lightweight, easy to set up, and has an app with a ton of ways for me to customize what it does.

We're still figuring out how to tweak the sensitivity to it doesn't detect us getting into the vehicle as a Parking Mode incident, but that's just something we'll figure out in time. So far, it's worked just fine, but there are plenty of other good options out there too. Lots of folks here say they have good luck with Blackvue, but they are a bit pricier for similar features. There's a $99 camera by Rove on Amazon that has a ton of great features and reviews too - I just didn't get it because it's kinda bulky and has the screen on the back.

Hope that helps!
