With the price of fuel ⛽ climbing and no end in sight, who is investing in a locking gas cap? I had a MOPAR “keyed alike” on my JL and it was a little inconvenient, but gas was only $2-ish/gallon then. I feel that people may become desperate/greedy and fuel theft my become an issue. Thank you.

I remember the price hike in 2008. Most gas thieves back then were not going through the fill tube, they were drilling holes in the polymer plastic gas tanks and letting gravity do the work.

Agreed. Most new vechicles already have anti siphoning measures in place

the only thing a locking cas cap is gonna do is stop the gasoline fairy from filling you up.

I thought the gas door locks with the doors / fob?
That IS kind of odd - my 2012 BMW fuel door couldn't be opened (easily) if the car was locked, but my 2021 JT can/does. You'd think a feature like that would have trickled down by now....

It has to be a conscious design decision. I personally love it. I've owned european cars with fuel doors that you had to release from inside and its a pain in the butt. I still forget after 15 years.

The Jeep is nice and simple. I'm not going to put up with the inconvenience of a locking cap to help avoid a problem that probably won't happn and if it does will cost me only $50.

For an off road vehicle, I do not think one would want to fiddle with a failed electric or mechanical release door in the middle of nowhere needing access to refuel.

The releases are easy to pry open anyway. Its usually a plastic plunger roughly 1/8 in in diameter with a small solenoid.
