There will be some units holding till the end with the s@@ty steel fuel cans. ? I have been in some that wouldn't issue the "new" gear or whatever until they couldn't get obsolete s@@@ that was no longer available. I was using AN-PVS 7b and Gortex gear back in 89 and 3 piece sleeping system in early 90s. Three PCS's later to a Div in 1998 still issuing sleeping bags from 50s and just started issuing PVS 7a among many other things. ? that Div. would have had us carrying M-1s, BAR'S and 1919's if they could have found them and ammo probably. ?
Airborne. I think the idea was to not have plastic cans bouncing from an early release, or that we didn't want to to land in a DZ full of spilled fuel.

Are the Gelg can's not USA certified for highway use due to the spout? Ie, is theirs an older style spout but perfectly fine in other respects?

Or - is it just that they aren't sold in the right colors? (Red for gas, etc.)
Looks like due to EPA on fuel filling, not to mention the color isn't fire red.

Only allow to fill fuel cans 1/2 to 2/3 full for ABN ops.
Hmm my last A.D. unit was part of the gagging dragon... ?
Wasn't you in 101?

I think it is related to the venting and the fuel spout. Wavian officially sells every one of their fuel cans with a EPA compliant fuel spout. GELG generally does not and just sells their cans with a wink and a nod that they are for non fuel use but in any other country not following EPA guidelines, they are a legal fuel container.

Where color comes in, when they are sold in the red, yellow and blue colors, they have to be sold as compliant fuel cans.

As a vet… The Scepter cans are great (though I use Wavian), but be careful not to fall for the old “the military uses it so it must be the best” trap. Frequently a lot of the stuff we use was chosen because it was good enough to last the number of uses or years the military asked for it to last for. Or because it met the price point they gave to the manufacturer. Or it was made in the right state for the congressman who ran the commission that chose it. There are a lot of differing reasons the military chooses an item, and it’s frequently not because it’s the “best”.

I know a lot of people buy the Wavian, and then replace the fuel spout with the non EPA compliant option (which is another ~$20 or so iirc).

Sounds like getting the GELG with their spout saves like $50 per can.

Count me as a Wavian fan. I own and have used both Wavian and Sceptre and settled on Wavian as the best for me.
- Better, much quicker filling with proper spout. (Get a proper NOT compliant version)
- FAR less swelling in altitude and heat.
- Much better sealing.
- More durable and long lasting.
- No Tools needed.

- I've had Sceptre swell so much that they wouldn't come out of the rack without opening the top to vent which then spillled fuel everywhere, despite being as cautious as possible.
- I actually had a wrench break, thus creating a hell of a hassle getting the top open.
- I had the Sceptre nozzle base crack, thus creating a leaky mess.
- Strap on the Sceptre cap broke.

There was a ton of thought/design put into the Wavian can that is still relevant today. It's amazing how much you can nerd-out learning about them. There are YouTube videos.
