Is there a way to change from the capped fuel tank to capless like the old Stant part?

New 2026 gladiator and first jeep for me. My wife has a 2024 Willy’s. Mine is a sport s and coming from a Charger Daytona that had all the bells and whistles, I’m starting to realize all the things I’m missing. So far, I’m just over a week in and not 100% happy with the choice I made, but I’m trying to keep an open mind, as realistically, at this time, I don’t have any other choice but to be open minded.

Anyway, after putting in gas a few times, I realized I actually miss my capless gas tank. The one with the little door. My wife has one on her jeep. Mine is the normal capped one and 1st world problems, but that cap is annoying.

I know it’s so minimal and from what I can find, most owners seem to dislike the capless design. But is there a way I can change mine? I saw there is a part for older vehicles made by Stant that just screws on. But other than that, I can’t find anything else. Anyone happen to know if there is something out there? Thank you!

I’ve never had an issue in the past 5 years I’ve had one on the vehicles I’ve had. Now I have to worry about that cap on the gladiator not hooking up and the door and hitting the side of the bed.

If you worry about the mark from the fuel cap, you might not want to drive the Jeep to the mall. The cap is plastic and won't leave a mark. The fuel cap on mine lays against the fender without touching the bed.

There's literally a hook on the fuel door to hold the cap and prevent it from touching the body panels.

You also realize those "capless" systems often fail due to corrosion and dirt buildup much earlier, leading to "small evap leaks", CELs, and MORE annoyance than using a near 100 y/o design. It's also easier for people to steal fuel since they don't lock.

Enjoy your new truck. Other than this minor drawback, what else do you want to change that you miss from the Charger (other than mpg)?

Yea those MPGs are rough. Crazy that my Hemi got better gas milage - the charger is no light weight vehicle either. I miss my ventilated seats, blind spot monitoring, back up sensors, the ability to get up and go, the maneuverability ( handling), the ease of my dog getting in and out. To be honest, the list is long enough to say " well why the hell did you buy it". We had a pros and cons list we left at home, we were an hour away and there for about 7 hours and my wife was getting irritated. So tbh, I think I had some brain fog and just made a rash decision instead of driving my car home to reset my thoughts. Live and learn, its an expensive lesson that Im now stuck with for a bit. I do plan on offloading it as soon as I can. Im not a jeep person at heart like my wife apparently. Biggest con is we now no longer have a comfortable vehicle between the 2 of us for long drives.

To be fair, there is nowhere other than the beach inside almost 200 miles to go off-roading where I am at. But yea, I am worried about scratches at this point in time as I currently am not happy with my purchase so as soon as i am bale to get rid of it without taking a 5k hit I will. Just cant seem to get into the transition. This was more of my wife's dream, for me to have a gladiator and her the willys wrangler and well, its not translating well for me. Happy wife sometimes doesnt mean happy husband lol.

While your charger wasn't shaped like a wedge (think prius), it was not a giant brick going 55+. There's a reason MB went with a TTV8 in the g-wagon, and why it still only gets 12-14mpg but can go 165mph, power AND it's a brick. Expecting ANY truck to do REAL truck things AND get 20mpg or more average is, to be blunt, retarded. Maverick owners are special, just like Ridgeline and Santa Cruz owners...they at least understand they bought a car with a small utility bed.

As far as scratches, I've taken my 21 Willys through the brush/woods and I don't notice any scratches on my paint. I do have a few minor marks on the black plastic mirror covers, but that's from thorn bushes, the paint is still fine and I've hit that trail probably 10x this year easily. Just get a good wash/wax habit, I go to Delta Sonic (car wash/gas/detail chain here) at least once a week, sometimes per day. No scratches yet (knock on wood).

Really sounds like you shouldn't have bought a Sport S, at least without the MaxTow package (4.10 gears), Convenience Group, and Active Safety Group...as that would have cured all the complaints you have other than mpg...but again it's a brick compared to a wedge. Maybe the dealer will let you trade on another Sport S with those packages for a small loss. Call between 10:30-14:30 and ask for the General Manager, be polite and tell them what you wanted vs what you got. Explain short and sweet what you would like to do, and ask what they can do to remedy this situation...in exchange for a great google review. They want to have repeat sales, losing out on ANOTHER sale, and potentially another sale from your referral of service is NOT something they want.

I love my sport s. Blind Spot Monitoring, backup sensors, and plenty of pep to get going (ecodiesel)

As for the fuel cap...I prefer the cap over capless. Guess I only owned vehicles with caps but my wife's car is capless. Honestly I don't really feel the difference when fueling..It's not that hard either way. But I prefer the caps because they are replaceable and easier to install vs a hole paint matched fueldoor

With the right options you can get what you want. If you go used you can get the EcoDiesel and still get great gas mileage. I am running 42s on a 6.5inch lift and still getting 17-20mpg and have plenty of power to get up and move when I need to. With katzin you can add the ventilated seats. After reading all your post it really doesn't sound like you want a jeep anyways. Even if you got the options you wanted you still probably wouldn't be happy with it. Life is about being happy so if you aren't happy with it get something that will make you happy. I've been there and got the wrong car and hated every minute of driving it and finally got rid of it and took a loss. Is what it is. You can always call the dealership and see what they can do to get you into a car you want. Best of luck to you.

Just a minor suggestion: I also traded a sports car for my Jeep. I'm really happy with the choice, but I was happier when I added the Fox 2.0 ATS steering stabilizer to tweak the steering. Brought the steering-feel quite a bit closer to what I preferred.

PS: I'm also a fan of capless. Have it in our Transit van.

I traded my 2013 Camaro SS in for a 2016 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. I drove that for 87,000 miles / 6 years before getting my Gladiator (which I am 36K, three years into now).

However, I made my own choice to switch and leaned into the Jeep life. I did a lot of camping and offroading / adventuring over the years.

....OK well I also bought a 2015 Camaro SS three years after trading the previous one in, so I've had a Jeep AND a Camaro ever since 2019 😂

Congrats! I traded a C7 manual on my JT. Sounds funny, but having way more fun with my JT. Given the short Minnesota season, bad roads, curbs, potholes, I was only driving my Vette about 2000 miles a year. I really don't miss it. But if I had room in the garage, I would consider a 2 door Wrangler to take its place . . .
