Mystery “unit” found..What is THIS?

We had one of these on our old 2017 JKU - pretty much ignored it, but once we sold the vehicle to Vroom it's kind of entertaining being able to see where they are storing it, and maybe still see it when it gets sold...

It had an AT&T sim chip in it. Spartan is the company that makes it and it’s not real accurate. this one is on our Wagoneer (dealer never told
me about these but found out one was on the Wagoneer..I removed it from the Gladiator). Dealer FINALLY sent me a link to download the Spartan app and it found the car..but only listed it at a Wendy’s from 6 days ago..so it doesn’t “track” much of anything. I appears to have an internal battery that is recharged with the car running. Also dealer FINALLY disclosed that this is a “free” service for three years..then they charge you for it. The U-Connect app works way better for both vehicles..Gonna find the tracker in this Wagoneer and remove it today.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in conspiracy theories, especially with big tech that gathers immense amount of data which is monetized and government that continues to gather more as well. Substantial opportunity for what I would call, abuse.

I was not aware that this device could possibly be installed in my Jeep or the ‘22 GMC truck which is to be delivered “shortly” (which, by the way has been stored in an open lot near Flint, Michigan awaiting missing parts earlier and now delivery trucking).

Here’s another concern that may not be immediate but certainly possible or probable in the relatively near future, and which could lead the to federal government taxing for miles driven.

Granted , The Western Journal leans conservative, but this could be easy enough to verify by reading the infrastructure bill. I’ll confess, I have not done so.

Many of these types of tracking devices are installed by dealers as a way of tracking and locating vehicles that are purchased by people that are a bad credit risk in order to help in repossessing the vehicle or stolen during a test ride.

So this fell out from under the dashboard today. What is it? It had a very flimsy piece of double sided tape on it..and no clue where it is supposed to go.. also there was another “rogue” wire with a two conductor female connector that’s just “loose”

They usually tap +12vdc off the OBDII connector harness. Just make sure you wrap up/insulate that when you remove the thing.

A lof of those threads are not about the tracker. All though i have seen the threads on here about the tracker. My question would be why are they tracking customers?

To "Reacquire" the vehicle for nonpayment. Also, if vehicle is "Borrowed" from the lot in the middle of the night. Any vehicle that pushbutton start can be spoofed with a fake remote. Takes a sophisticated criminal but maybe Gladiators are highly desired.

To say with certainty these are not trackers would be naive. Everything is data driven including the domestic surveillance drones that collect our data every single night. Which was never supposed to happen and did in a matter of 2 years. Perhaps the Spartan website has some info.

I couldn't imagine going through life STILL thinking things as simple as data collection are still conspiracies.
