I will keep this in mind. Not quite sure what I'm going to do just yet since the spare doesn't have a sensor it kinda makes a 5 tire rotation pointless....

Unless anyone knows if a 5th sensor can be put in and connected to the computer. That sounds like a pain though
Thanks.

Just FYI, my local independent tire guy only charges $10 to install a sensor in a mounted tire that doesn't have one.

I'm assuming on the JT only the 4 tires on the ground are read by the TPMS system. A fifth sensor on the spare would not be noticed by the computer until that tire is rotated in.

I had issues on a 2020 Ranger when I installed a 5th sensor in the spare for 5 tire rotations. For some reason it confused the TPMS system and I started getting TPMS errors. Only stopped after I removed the sensor from the spare. Hopefully the Jeep is not the same way as I would like to do 5 tire rotations.

very interesting and good to know. I would keep them. So probably wont sell them then

so i guess doing a 5 wheel rotation would be a major pita then because you would have to take the tire off to swap the tpms over? That seems really dumb. I would have thought there would be a 5th tpms in the spare then.
I had no issue finding a fifth rubicon wheel. I also chose specific 37’s that fit just fine on that 7.5” wide wheel. I looked forever online to find a TPMS sensor, then called a dealer. I had it in 2 days.

I have a sensor in my spare and there are zero problems. 2021 Rubi with a build date prior to June ‘21. Just to be safe, I rotated the valve towards the rear at 6 o’clock, putting it as far from the rears as possible. No detection issues at all. I even swapped it in for fun the other day, made sure it’s PSI was way higher than the other four, and drove around for several miles. It detected it within a 1/4 mile without issue. I swapped it back into the spare spot as I’m several thousand miles early for a rotation. Worked great. No programming necessary. It just detects a rotating sensor near the receiver near each hub.

what’s the specific 37 you went with for 7.5”? I know many on here just ignore the width requirement and use 12.5” tires. Did you fine 11.5”?

I didn’t ignore it, entirely. The Mickey Thomson Baja boss A/T calls for an 8”, where most 37’s want 8.5. Only 1/4” in on each bead. I also asked multiple reputable shops if they though it would cause any problems. They said I was all good. I’m running them around 35-36psi, which leaves the tread very flat. I’ll likely rotate them every 4,500 or so to keep them happy, but no driving issues. It off-roads great. I’ve had them down to 17psi, and had no issues rock crawling it.

I’ve been thinking of using those same tires but in 35”. Good to hear you have a good experience at 37.

Glad I did it. The things I used to scrape, I no longer get near.

No, the computer doesn't recognize the spare location. Just the 4 corners.
So if you had five wheels with sensors, it would detect whatever wheel is at the four corners?

Sorry if this was covered. I have a limited slip rearend and I’ve been thinking I should get a spare matching my tire size so naturally I thought about a five wheel rotation like I did on my JK.

Yes. Exactly. Confirmed with my pre June 2021 build date ‘21 rubicon. Works great. No one could tell me for sure, so I gambled with a single TPMS sensor purchase. Worked perfectly.

Nice. Thank you. I edited my post after you quoted it. I have a pretty big size differential between my spare and other tires so was thinking I should pick up a matching wheel when I get new tires.

That’s what I did. Found one from a forum member a few months ago. They pop up a lot.

On my 21 JKUR the computer monitors the four rolling tires. No issues when the spare was rotated into the mix. After about 50 feet the spare started transmitting. I will be looking for a matching spare rim soon for my 2022 JTM.

If you’re dead-set on different wheels…for what i’ve seen stock Rubicon wheels with tires go for here and elsewhere…it makes more sense (to me) to hang onto them in case you ever need to return to stock for some reason. That’s assuming you have room to store them.

My tire guy had no problem getting me new wheels and tires with factory sensors. Pulled the trigger on a Monday then had to wait a week for the wheels to come only ones available were not close to me.
its not an issue with the factory sensors, more so trying to figure out how to incorporate a 5 tire rotation while still reading pressure at each tire without having to break down and swap sensors each rotation

yeah I just didn't know (till I read all these responses that I missed) that it would pick up the 5th tire pressure once its rotated in.

wait - so you two are saying that it will pick up the sensor once it is on the wheel rotating? and it will the ignore the spare?? this is pretty sweet. anyone know how it does this?
