I read all 7 pages and I am somewhat confused as what to do. I currently have a Rubicon 3.6 auto. It has 3.5” lift with 5.13 gear and soon will have 37” tires.

I am thinking about buying a camper that is about 5800lbs dry with 680lbs hitch weight. Assuming I get a break controller and WDH, will I be ok pulling the camper or is it too much?
OK, yea. Happy? unlikely. With that tongue weight you will sag pretty bad. I cant speak to how the JT will drive with the lift / tires / gears...but all of those mods decrease your cargo capacity and towing capacity. Ive read that the wheels specifically decrease towing capacity in relation to the increase in diameter. So, as an example, a %10 increase tire size equates to a %10 reduction in towing capability. Personally, I wont go above my 5,000lbs (max weight) TT @ 450lbs of tongue weight. If your TT shop is willing Id maybe ask them to hook up the TT you are looking at and see how it changes the stance of the JT. If you look like a pooping dog than its probably not the TT for you.

I cant get my wife to agree with the hybrid. She doesn't feel safe especially with 3 young kids. The only other one I can think of are the ones that Mathew listed:

2022 Jay Flight SLX 264BH - 4580lbs - 470lbs Hitch
2022 Forest River Cruise Lite 240BHXK - 5343lbs - 570lbs hitch --> this one is very close in weight to the original one I was looking at. About 500lbs difference.

Here is my tow thread...

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/will-it-tow-my-boat.45857/

I can tell you that 95% of the time I am fine towing here in AZ. But 5% of the time it derates the power and will only go about 30 MPH and has basically no throttle response. This happens in August in 120 degree weather pulling a small hill on the way back from the lake. My Correct Craft SAN 210 in the picture weigh in 5,300 pounds on the tandem trailer.

Also, if I hit a pothole on the highway I can feel the trailer jerking the Jeep around. I just have to drive slower than if I was in a 1/2 ton, full size, truck.

the first one is nice, but having a slide out will be very nice with the kids. My wolf pup 18to has a large slide out and the extea inside space, as well as the larger inside table is wonderful. This last weekend we were in Virginia Beach and it rained the second morning. Having the space to comfortably eat inside is priceless.

that second one is nearly the same weight. BUT the tongue weight is 100lbs lighter. Which means less weight on the rear of your truck and an extra 100lbs of cargo capacity gained back vs the first one.

I didn't even notice that the first one 2022 Jay Flight SLX 264BH doesn't have a slide. That would be a deal break as it would be too tight for 5 people.

This one has potential.

Springdale 1760BH

i love my TT but this one Is freaking nice! Lots if space, bunks, big table, storage, interior space to move around. And a decent hitch weight.

definitely worth finding one to walk in if you’re able.

The tongue weight is SOLELY a function of loaded trailer weight.

The quoted tongue weights are worthless data on an important metric.

If you don't have at least 10% of ACTUAL trailer weight on the tongue, you will have handling problems. I prefer 12% as a safety margin. It's cheap to get a scales tag.

Doi need as way bar with a weight distribution hitch?
You definitely want a sway bar distribution hitch. And you'll want to know your gvwr for the trailer, not just the dry weight. We're picking up our new travel trailer Monday. It's 25'5"-26'. The gvwr is 5,500lbs. Just had my new max tow delivered to my driveway Thursday.

I wouldn’t say worthless at all. Some TTs come with a higher tongue weight than others right out the gate. So you know what weight, at a minimum, do figure into your cargo. If your loading your camper to the point where you need to go scale it afterwards, then you’re already at the point you need more truck or less TT/gear.

knowing your tongue weight lets you ballpark your weights since the vast majority of trailer owners don’t scale before loading, after loading, or probably at all.
