I would take the time to speak with your dealership sales guy & his management. I spent many years in the car biz. If the market is softening on that vehicle, there may be flexibility in their pricing. "Do you still want the Gladiator as ordered" ? would be my guiding thought.

I'm am actually ok with just walking away from my deposit. That's a loss on my part sense it's my decision to go else where. Although given the current market, they would need to be near %10 under MSRP or better to get me interested again. I will discuss this with them of course.
I have never once seen / heard a dealership sticking a neck out for me or a family member. It's always in favor of the dealership, no matter what. It always seems like it's a fight to get what I am promised by the sales guy. I guess this is whey id doesn't seem THAT BAD to just walk away from this order.
Also one more card I could play if I really wanted to be an asshole, I put the deposit on my CCard. I could dispute it, and get a charge back with Visa. I'm not saying I will, and it may not work anyway. but it's an option.

Initially, you would get the charge reversed. They would then investigate the matter. If the dealer can show it was a non-refundable deposit, they would give the dealer the money back.

Sounds like a lot of rationalizing going on. If you special order something doesn’t that mean you agree to buy it when it arrives at a certain price?

Presumably you signed something. Maybe take a look at that, including the fine print.

Not sure what you think the value of one model year and 20k miles of unknown treatment are worth. Congrats, you're 15% under original MSRP on a used vehicle that could have been rode hard and put away wet.

All that for what I'm estimating to be 6.5k in savings. That's nothing. The cash you're "saving" is exceeded by the value you are losing even at MSRP.

And that's before we even get into the fact that if a dealer backs out of an agreed upon deal, everyone throws a fit. But if a customer does it it's okay?

"Dealers do shitty things all the time, why can't we?" I hear the apologists say... well you aren't allowed to complain about dealers doing shitty things if you support customers doing shitty things.

I ordered a Gladiator back in April, and have been patiently waiting. Its actually built now, just waiting on delivery.... except now I am seeing Gladiators are popping up on the used market at a reasonable price. The only reason I pre-ordered a new one, I literally could not find a single one at that time that had the limited amount of options that I was looking for (i ordered a sport S Manual), and they would take less than MSRP. It was a no brainer to just order a new one and pay MSRP.
Well things have changed, and I feel we are seeing the bottom begin to fall out of the Used Car Market. I have sense spotted 2, better optioned Gladators that I am interested in, and far cheaper than MSRP. So much so, it would be saving me over $5K to take one of these used ones with less than 20k miles and they have fare more options!
My real question here is, how pissed is the dealership going to be when I walk away from my pre-order. I do have a $500 deposit on it. Of course I would like my deposit back, but I'm willing to walk away from that if its going to save me in the long run. They made it clear when ordering that they want MSRP+fee's+freight+tax for it, so I highly doubt they will negotiate at all on price.
I don't feel toooo bad about walking away from as dealership have been making money hand over fist for several years now. Im sure they can off my gladi to someone else that walks in the door.
Yes dealer will not like this. They get in a little trouble with FCA because preorders are built before dealer stock orders. FCA doesn’t want dealers getting their stock this way. I don’t know what their penalty is but there is one. Your only penalty will be kissing $500 bye bye unless something else is spelled out in your purchase contract. They probably won’t be excited about ordering one for you in the future.

Might ask the dealer if they do the TreadLightly 1% below invoice bit, and depending on where one lives, there are incentives on some models and it varies from month to month.

A new vehicle is even a risk but you have the full warranty.
A used vehicle is a craps shoot, IMO. Unless you know the previous owner............ even then, I can think back to a Ford driven by a little old lady - literally. The problem? She lived next to the shop I worked in at the time. We could tell when she was backing out of the garage. Foot on accelerator, control the speed backing out using the clutch.
Ya just know that flywheel was blue in places.

A used vehicle could go for another 100,000 miles without major issue, very possible, but you just never know how anything was treated or driven unless a pro looks it over for you.

I am awaiting delivery of my JT as well. In the paperwork I signed, it stated that if I do not accept delivery, there will be a 5% fee that I have to pay the dealership. I'd read the fine print if I were you.

I just looked thru the paperwork I have, it's not a "purchase agreement" but rather a "vehicle order" agreement. And the verbage is more about keeping my down payment, and any trade allowance that I may have already traded in.
Also states that they can sell my vehicle that is ordered within 2 days of delivery if it's not accepted.

How do they enforce that 5% fee at delivery if there is a defect? Just saying, one could pick the fly shit out of the pepper on something and say it is not acceptable.

I'm not sure... I'll have to pull the paperwork out, and look into that further.

For the record, I am not breaking your balls on this. Just dealerships play a lot of games like having you sign a "4 Square" document sheet saying you agree to the terms. That is not legal binding document as there is still many things in play.

I just saw this .... The jeep I have ordered is listed for sale on the dealership website. Vin matches.
The Mopar tracking website still says it's not delivered, TBD. I never received a call. Ugh, I think I should go get my deposit back.
What a shit show.

LOL No... you're good. I truly have ZERO clue what I'm talking about. I know I read about the fee, but that is as far as my knowledge goes. I've never ordered vehicle before. I bought my LJ brand new off the lot, as well as my commuter vehicle (which is getting traded in for the JT. Bye bye good mpg.)

The software that populates many dealers websites automatically will post both dealer orders and customer orders as pending vehicles for sale when they are in the pipeline. Does not necessarily mean they are making an active effort to sell your order out from under you.
