So as I research, I’m wondering if I really want to go 17’s or maybe bump to 20’s as I’d be wrapping them in 37’s. Anything larger and I just don’t think it does the truck justice, but I feel like 37’s on a 17” wheel is almost too much rubber vs rim.

thoughts? And for clarity I’m looking at the Venomrex forged wheels so weight is not so much an issue.

Here’s my Kumho KL71 37x13.50r20 on 20x10 MotoMetals... Plenty of sidewall for off-roading, and with less rubber between the wheel & the sidewall, it handles WAY better on the road. Then I added the Fox TS 2.0 steering stabilizer, and it’s day & night from how it was before the stabilizer.

You happen to have a front end picture looking straight at the truck? I'm looking to do a no lift 37x13.5 R 20 and then eventually going JKS lift once I gather the extra 2k in finances to do the lift. For now though, I just want to see the width in relation to the front end. Trying to decide whether it's worth the 13.5 vs 12.5 ( I know I'll probably not even notice, but it'd be an expensive mistake make if I go too thin)

What offset are those wheels? The Venomrex are 20x9 and -6.

I'm planning on running 37's on my Stock wheels. I ran a set of used pro comp 37's on my JKU with stock wheels for 2 months with no issues when I was trying to decide between 37's and 35's. It really depends on width. If you jump to a 13.5 or more over a 12.5 then that's where running them on stock wheels might be a issue. Me personally I prefer the look of more meat less wheel, but to each his own on that. 20 inch wheels don't look bad to me, just not my preference. Definitely don't go over 20

Yea I honestly do not like the look of anything over 20. Even 20 was pushing it and I would only do that for 37's because I feel like the ratio's wouldn't be so unbalanced at that point. Any less of a tire and I'd stay at the 17" range.

20's look fru fru to me, but it's your rig! If you like it, go for it! Do they still make spinners in that size?

There’s still plenty of meat on a 37 with 20’s inside and because it’s a forged wheel I’m after, it should actually save me weight while giving me plenty of rubber for trails and sand and above average on road manners.

It’s 20’s on a truck, not on an impala. I’m not after a bro-mobile here. I want form and function. Plus the majority of wrangler-gladiator pictures I’ve seen from Venomrex have a nice look with 20’s without screaming bro-dozer, I just don’t know the tire size I’m looking at sometimes. I just want a good combination of weight, on road, and offroad, with emphasis on it being a DD. But that’s why I asked the question.

I would never do 20’s on anything except a truck. And I would never do it on anything less than 37’s because like you said, French fry, or whatever.

Not a big fan of oversized rims on a 4x4. Seen a JLU the other day that looked to have 35’s w/22” rims :puke: First thought that went through my head was “mall crawler”. Taller sidewalls seem to make the tires ‘look’ meatier to me.

In essence, (both tire/wheel combos being 37 tall) the bigger rim (20”) = less rubber so less weight and less sidewall roll so tighter handling on the road.... smaller rim (17”) = a little more weight and a little softer handling but the big advantage is when aired down off road. More sidewall makes it smoother over rock and limbs as well as the ability for the tire to flex and wrap around the rocks you’re crawling over More so than the shorter sidewalls.

Although the difference isn’t that wide between 17,18,&20” rims. Just got back from a trip with another JTR that had 37/12.5/20’s (mines37/12.5/17). Didn’t look bad with the 37’s as mentioned above but we were both aired down to 20 and in the videos you could see mine flexing and wrapping around the rocks but his didn’t look aired down at all.

At the end of the day, it’s your money, go with what you like. Just know if you go with 24” spinners and 35” rubber, we WILL laugh at you. Lol

Actually a 37" tire on a 20" wheel has slightly more sidewall than the stock JTR does with the 285/70r17 Falken WP M/T's on the stock 17" wheels... ;)

But on-road performance is increased 10-fold with the 37's on 20's. My JTR takes some pretty sharp curves at 55+ MPH easily. Granted, my 2017 GT-PP was hitting them at like 90 without breaking a sweat, but that's a whole different ballgame. The JTR is a different animal completely, with the lift and big mud tires. Regardless, for what it is, it handles REALLY well now, compared to stock. It even handles better offroad.

Food for thought.

Bama and I think a lot alike. I have 20x10 Fuel wheels with 37/13.50-20 Nittos and the handling is phenomenal. My normal highway cruise speed is 85 and off-road What ever I can get away with given I have a heavy foot.

I agree on the handling.
A 285/70 is 285mm wide and 70% is 199mm (7.85”) of sidewall. A 37x20 would be 8.5” if truly 37 so the 37 has a hair more sidewall like you said but more tread width and most likely better stiffer sidewalls so it’ll definitely be noticeable on the handling. Nothing like your GT-PP or even the Challenger I used to have ;) wasn’t unusual for me to take 40mph curves on the back road I live on at 85-90 in that thing but it also had ?255/35zr20? eagles on it. Lol No sidewalls meant it rode on rails but you felt every pothole and crack in the road. It’s always a trade.
for what it’s worth, the other JTR did fine with the 20’s just noticed we didn’t see the tires flex much at all.
