19A recall

I took my truck into the dealership today for the 19A recall. The dealership told me they wouldn’t do the recall because I have regeared (Dana spicer 4.88s which are in the mopar performance catalog) and had a tazer.

I already have a centerforce clutch, which JEEP actually reimbursed me for, but I am in the military and can’t have an open recall on my vehicle when they ship it to Hawaii.

Has anyone else ever had a dealer NOT do a recall because of modifications.

On my JKU the dealership honored the airbag recall even though my Jeep was heavily modified. Not sure what the gears has to do with the 19A recall which is basically a clutch recall. I know some of the guys here who uses the Tazer, would usually un-marry it from the Jeep before bringing it into the dealership. I'm wondering if that's really the reason why they won't do the recall? Good luck and keep us posted!

The Tazer they have a point and I would unmarry it for any software flash they would have to do. As to the gears, maybe contact another dealership or maybe @JeepCares to see if they can help.

Yeah I unmarried the tazer before I showed up too. The dealership told me that they had done the recall before on a jeep with a tazer and regear and the jeep didn’t work afterwards so they won’t do a recall if it had been regeared.

I contacted Jeep and they opened a case since I had already had the clutch replaced and they reimbursed me for it.

I’ll see how this pans out. I understand the dealership’s thought process but I don’t see how a dealership can say they will or won’t do a mandatory safety recall. Modified or not.

Yes, find another dealership or contact corporate. It worked for me when I had to get my JKU fixed and my warranty was expired. They didn't help much but I did get something out of it.

Right or wrong, I am sure in their brain they think there is liability on their part unless the vehicle is stock. Deductive reasoning and critical thinking is not their forte many times.

Anytime I go to the dealership….I unmarry the Tazer (reboot, etc) and take it out completely. Technically, they don’t know I have one. I had to mention it once to the tech (failed emissions test) but…. The tech wasn’t concerned about it at all. He simply said…rebooting the Tazer erases data. That was it….

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong…. If you unmarry the TAZER but leave it installed, I‘m pretty sure their computer systems can still detect it.

Take it out completely to avoid any issues!!

Regearing will change driveline forces. The clutch is a critical part of the driveline. The oem clutch is prone to heat damage and premature failure.

Contact jeep to have recall marked as completed since they paid for a after market cluch I don’t think they will pay for recall again

The recall states that if you have been reimbursed for repairs previously done, you may still be required to perform the recall.

I bet they did have a bunch of problems with a regeared Jeep that had the gear ratio changed with a Tazer, when you un-marry it changes the gear ratio back to stock. That is the major downside to using a Tazer to make changes to your Jeep, they are not “permanent”, as soon as you un-marry they are reverted to stock. Use JScan to make any changes that you want to be permanent.

technically the vehicle can't be modified to be shipped either why I chose to drive my lifted Samurai on 34's back from Alaska in '05 being in HI you don't have that option
