Looks really nice!! Better than a 4 runner for sure. those things are pigs. we had a 2021 4 runner limited. What a waist of money.

I’ve driven the older 70 Series in other parts of the world and was so impressed that I really tried to get one in the US but that was not to be. I bought a Gladiator as a substitute.
‘If the new version is as good (or better) it will dominate the segment. They were that good. They were extremely dependable and rugged beyond belief. They were also simple to fix and that would be my only concern with the new ones…

I can't see this and the 4runner in the market. Does the 4runner get canceled rather than updated?

Just to be clear. This isn’t the Land Cruiser flagship, it’s the land cruiser prado. The prado is the same chassis as the 4runner and the Lexus gx. This variant has been sold to the rest of the world for decades amd its new upgrade to the 150-series. This is why the new Lexus gx shares the same design as this prado.

This isn’t the full sized Land Cruiser of the lc60, 80, 100, 200, or 300.

The 4 runner will be cheaper then the LC and its also shorter by 2 inches. They are not canceling it but rumor of a manual is out there. I have a feeling it will be a more aggressive design to run up against the Bronco and Wrangler. So of renders which I always wonder if manufacturers leak the odd one to gage opinion, look pretty good.

In no way is this new “LC” a successor to the 70 series. The 70 is it’s own line which continues to be made and sold. It is not even the successor to the last LC we had in the US, the 200 series. It is its own line of cars (series 150, 250), like Bronco Sport vs the Bronco. Obviously they’re hoping to capitalize on the LC name to imply some sort of equivalence, but it’s just a ploy. Any article that proclaims “LC returns to US” is just reposting Toyota press copy. The LC Prado, which is what this is, has been around the world for some time.

Edit: now you’ve got me lurking on the LC 70 forums again, thanks man.

Much better improvement over the short-range pig the last (US) Landcruiser was. Even if they kept the tiny tank, this turbo hybrid will last much longer. Toyota's expecting up to 27mpg (from their website), even with the decent go power. Makes me wonder what the 4th gen Taco with the same engine is going to get, if it's getting mid-20s with the same power as the LC, that's a win compared to the other recent mid-size refreshes. I also personally like the style, the last couple LC generations in the US were the cold porridge of visual auto design.

It was good they included some of the trail goodies on the cheaper 1958 version, but I wish they and certain other brands would include all the mechanical trail features on cheaper models and then save the expensive models for additional creature comforts and optional stuff like armor and over priced winches. Jeep did this a bit with the Willies refresh at least. The '58 LC model should've had the stabilizer bar disconnect as well with the 4wd system. That drive system is a win in my book for my area and winter/dirt activities, I'm impressed if they squeeze that type of mileage out of a full-time system.

The Prado LC is an interesting change for the US, makes me wonder what the next gen 4runner is going to include to stand out from this nimbler and cheaper LC. I was expecting the LC to have the v6 hybrid from the Tundra and save the v4 for the 4runner. I think the other LC advantages goes over most buyers' heads, that Japanese LC factory has produced some of the highest quality vehicles in history. In general I don't even hold much value to general Toyota's quality post early 2000s, but it's hard to deny the better process engineering in that plant.

On a down note, I see Toyota did do another "new" 70 series for some countries. Definitely envious of that one, at least it's dependability and payload.

Be a C-c-combo breaker if there was a Manual Hybrid Diesel option, even a regular Combo Breaker with a diesel hybrid.

Hybrid alone though loses a few people, and only an I4 also turns people off, no matter how much boost they give it

Why couldn't they do a V6tt for a TRD Pro or something
? for proper C-c-combo breaker call back. Made me chuckle ?

Looks pretty good to me. Slightly larger than a 5gen 4runner that I used own. More modern, more amenities, a whole lot more power and mpg with a very enticing price tag. I'd call that a winner. It's got much better power and mpg than our gladiators too. I'm pretty sure I'll be putting in a deposit for the mid grade one, the Land Cruiser or the new GX 550 when they start taking orders. I actually prefer the turbo 4 hybrid over the GX v6 for the better mileage/range. I'd have no problem with the LC power output. I just prefer the more lux interior of the the GX and possibly the 6/7 seater option.

The marketing approach from Toyota might be based on nostalgia, the need to take us back to the past with vehicles like the FJ Cruiser and now the Land Cruiser. Ford is pulling on nostalgia strings with the Bronco, but really, has anyone really been consistent ?
Jeep has!
