We just returned from a 28 day, 4600 mile tour of B.C., Yukon and Alberta. Towing our '16 Cricket Trek trailer (approx. 2000lbs). We averaged 15.5 mpg (U.S. gallons). I was really happy with the mileage we got. Gladiator ran great and towed better than our previous '18 Wrangler Unlimited. Can't wait to do it again. Only next time we're going all the way to Tuktoyaktuk in the NWT.

NOT! We'll do it in Sept/Oct. again. Good weather, no bugs and no tourists. Most likely won't take the camper either. Looking at adding a hardshell roof top tent to our camping stockpile.

My wife and I both have in the past watched shows that cover Alaska, NW Canada, etc. and we always liked the show Ice Road Truckers (so recognized where you planned on going) - we've commented several times we'd love to go to some of those spots - even ride along with a truck driver, but those areas are fascinating. I call it "Tuk" while my wife easily and quickly pronounces it properly.

Damn. How slow do you drive? Do you have a sport with those tiny tires on it? I will say that the mpg in mine has gone up since it was brand new and my hwy mpg has stayed the same when going from the stock 32.2” Overland All Seasons to a much heavier 33.6” E load All Terrain. I got 22 mpg hwy on my last road trip from NC to TN with the cruise set on 75, which is actually like 77 mph since I haven’t corrected the speedo. Top off or roof panels out or 80 mpg+ and it goes to hell. I get shit mpg around town. 16 mpg in mixed driving, mainly hwy. Lead foot I guess.

I got 15 mpg hwy driving to the beach a few months ago. We had the roof off and I was following a pack of cars doing 90-95 mph the whole way. I made it from Raleigh to Wilmington in 1.5 hrs though, which shattered my normal 2 hr time. I didn’t care, I still made it there and back and drove on the beach and up and down the coast in a tank of gas.
Got stock Overland skinnies on still and most of my miles is highway going between 60-70 mph.

Anything over 70 mph and mileage comes crashing down.

Exactly.

You don't have to drive like granny to get those numbers - although driving like I used to in my teens and 20s will send the mpg to the toilet.
Dunno why people have to disbelieve or call it fake or "that's not real" or "not possible" when clearly there are many of us able to get that sort of mpg.
I was in the dealer where I bought my JT a month or so ago looking at GCs for my wife (never intending to buy there, bought from a forum member instead) but I went to the sales guy I dealt with and told him I had a complaint. He sort of looked concerned but then he seemed suspect, knowing me. I told him I hadn't been able to achieve the MPG the EPA suggests on the window sticker, that instead I was exceeding it with numbers easily in the mid-20s even combined driving and on good highways, about 24+.
He said seriously, he's had a number of customers talk about how the JTs are exceeding their expectations on that, too. (I know they've sold a bunch but the last two times I've been there, I didn't see a single JT in their shop or their shop lot)

I get about 19 mpg on the highway with cruise control set at 75 on 35’s
Yeah, I'm in your boat brother. My stock Rubi has never seen the mpg these guys are getting. And I have done some serious traveling in mine. Virginia to Florida then to Ohio and back to Virginia. 19 at best, I think I was going down hill at that time. :CWL:
I don't really care about the gas mpg to be honest, half the time I forget to reset my trip meter to even account for it accurately.

I’ve personally driven a diesel JLRubi on 37s across Arizona and averaged 28ish mpg. Three people and packed full of gear

The trick with these jeeps is to stay under 70mph if you care about efficiency and really, 65 should be where you set your cruise. im gonna make a few “hyper mile” runs when mine arrives just out of pure curiosity then I’ll just enjoy the torque.

ultimately if the thought of spending $100/month more on fuel than most cars worries you then a gladiator isn’t or you

You are going over 70 PLUS have bigger, heavier tires than stock - that's a great number with that combo.
19 still is way better than ANY other truck I've ever had. So you are actually able to brag about your mpg

Take a brick, present more frontage to the wind and expose the less than smooth underside to the wind and add more weight to said brick......... and end up with nearly 20? That's not bad.

>>ultimately if the thought of spending $100/month more on fuel than most cars worries you then a gladiator isn’t or you <<

I came from trucks that got 12 mpg loaded, unloaded, tail-wind, head-wind, 50 mph or 70 mph, last truck could get 21 if I was careful at 55.
This truck I don't have to be careful and exceed that. No complaints about mpg here.

I wasn’t complaining - just sharing another data point with everyone.

I got about 18mpg combined in the (4 cylinder 2.5L) stage 2 STi I used to have and I had to put 93 in that.

Please refer back to my hard to see in all that sentence where I said -

As I thought you were actually being a bit positive on it - and I agreed.

Didn't mean to come across or suggest you had a complaint. I figured you were showing how good it could be even with larger tires and going the speed limit or better.

Well I just did a road trip of about 500 or so miles on way down I got average of 22.0 MPG. On way home I was staying at 23.0 MPG until last leg of about 50 miles... Which has a bunch of traffic lights at bottom of hills that sucks MPG down either way you're going I lose a few MPG. The tire pressure rose up from 43 psi was high on way down it moved to 45-46 psi (temperature change after adding air from low 40s to mid 70s) so I know the air has a lot of moisture in it. On way back I had adjusted TP to 41/42 psi rear 42 front I seen TP change up to 43 psi in one tire from 41
A few things that I have noticed during my ownership of my JT my odometer is reading less than actual mileage and speed is faster than actual speed. Brand and gas alcohol mix of it matters. Third everytime I get back from dealership my mileage drops and I lose 1 to 2 mpg from before trip in. So all that have a nitrogen tire fill can see less change in TP.
So IMHO things that matter on MPG: fuel, temperature (driving and refueling), speed, road conditions / traffic, weather and the big two vehicle and driver. To many variables to compare what I get vs anyone else does. Do I care about mileage? Yes, I have my own concern for it so do I need to have a car instead? No, I would rather be able to drive in about any conditions, towing, cargo and long lasting vehicle vs getting 40+ MPG. A car that is scrap and needing to replace many wear out parts.

I am getting 17.2 on the highway running 75mph and running 37's. If i push it to 80 it plummets very quickly.

I can’t drive under the speed limit. I guess I didn’t realize how spoiled I was with my 2017 Canyon All Terrain. It was also a 4wd 3.6l/8 speed auto. Even after I upgraded to 32” A/Ts, I easily got 24 mpg with the cruise control on 79 mph. At 80 mph, the cylinder deactivation didn’t come on as much. I didn’t mind the cylinder deactivation. It was seamless and they’ve been using it for years. By the time they got to my LGZ series engine, they’d worked out all of the cylinder deactivation issues and the direct injection issues. Basically, I wish we had that 3.6l. It had considerably more horsepower too at 308 hp. Also, my Gladiator never got better mpg with the stock 32” all seasons.
