I was thinking how awesome it would be if they came with a 3 speed transfer case. 1:1, 2.72:1 and 4:1. It would be for street, sand and rocks. Thoughts? Does such a thing already exist?

Think Jeep would save any money combining the Rubicon and Mojave with that transfer case? I think it would kick up the capability quite a bit.

I personally feel the 4:1 is a waste on most auto trans equipped vehicles and definitely on the JL/JT with the first gear in the trans so low. Manual trans you almost can't have too much t-case gearing though.

It would definitely put them ahead of all the competition. 4:1 has it's uses in certain areas.

Look at Altas transfer cases. Know of a few that use them. 1 to 1. 3 to 1. And 4 to 1. You got 2Hi, 2Lo, 4Hi, and 4Lo.

I agree that having all of the current transfer case ratios would make an incredibly capable and flexible JT. Being able to choose between 1:1, 2.7:1, and 4:1 would be great.

As an aside - we have a 1983 S-15 Jimmy (bought it new) 4WD, with a manual transmission. I occasionally disconnect the vacuum hose for the front differential locking module, and use 4Low in just 2WD. Lets me crawl very tightly when I need to maneuver in tight spaces where the driving surface isn’t good for using 4WD (like a paved parking lot). I’ve always liked being able to do that…

RV people do that to make it easier to back up hills and maneuver and such.

I'd rather have a manual trans with a 4:1 then a doubler. I want low and ultra-low.

Doublers / 3 speeds have their place. I have one in my Zuk Buggy, The rear case is 5:1, having the 2:1 is great for moderate speed stuff while having 10:1 with a stick ads control to descent. But the buggy sits too much and why i got the JT. its nice to have a plated rig that can do light wheeling and drive home

personally - i feel like the JTR is setup perfectly (especially with the 8 speed) - just leave it in 2nd/3rd gear 4LO and its like cruise control hardly ever need throttle input (and it just crawls through everything). I wish my PW had a 4:1 transfer case.
