JLU and JT same width.
A 2026 JLU Rubicon with a 3.6 can tow 5,000 pounds.

If you don't tow, but you do off-road, and want a V8, buy a Wrangler.
You will have a fair amount of cargo space, the same cabin area, but much better for off-road experiences.
What if you don’t tow, don’t off road, and want a V8 Jeep?

Many people with trucks don’t tow. And most people with Jeeps don’t off road.

Perhaps they are afraid that if they rate it for 3,500 lbs. of towing it will either not sell in the face of the other trims that tow 7,000 or more.....OR maybe they're worried that people will assume it can tow 7,000 lbs. anyhow leading to lots of overheating and warranty claims. Just a guess.

Remember the EcoDiesel fiasco? People overheated those left and right. Too much engine for that tiny engine bay.
I remember the EcoDiesel well, we have 2, JLURD and JTRD. My inlaws had a Ram 1500 and now have a JLU Sahara EcoDiesel.
The overheating isn't as rampant as non EcoDiesel owners make it out to be. Mine has never overheated towing 5k pounds over mountain passes in the summer.

Give the 5.7 Hemi a 6k towing just like the EcoDiesel and I bet it would be fine.

It's the Stelly only motor in current product I would consider trading our JLURD for.

Oddly, it seems the talk of overheating has sort of died down. Even way back when, it wasn't that many.

People who own them learned how to back off the skinny pedal

Buy a Wrangler. :like: Pretty easy!
I looked at Wranglers when I bought my Gladiator. There wasn’t a 392 at the time, and even if there was, I wouldn’t buy one for the price they sold for when they were available. And I like trucks over SUVs. More useful for me with the bed.

I’m still waiting for some to install an R2.8 in a Gladiator. I don’t need a speed demon. Just something that has what I need to off-road and a turbo charged diesel with an 8 speed behind it would be pretty sweet.

I think it was probably a vocal few.

Yep, that and you need to learn to drive a diesel different than a gasser. Plus it's a small diesel, not a big Cummins.

Careful, you gonna get told, it doesn't have enough power.
But it can be easily pumped up!

Yeah the only time mine would overheat is when I pulled 7k up a long, steep grade in summertime heat. 242F was the magic temp...at that point it would start to retard power.

But the guys out in the Rockies would say the EcoDiesel overheated at the drop of a hat.

The only way that would mean crap is if he did the slolam, braking tests, accelerating up a steep grade and so on.... Basically, what Jeep has to do.

161 HP and 310 lb-ft is plenty for a daily driven off-roader. It won’t be winning any racing circuits, but it’ll get the job done and way more efficiently than most of those ecological disaster diesel thingamajigies they put out. Plus you get a blowoff valve!!!!! That adds MAJOR cool points!!!! :turkey:
