I see a lot of Gladiators that the brake light in the tailgate isn’t working. Is this a common problem, and what is causing it to quit working ??

It's a common problem. The printed circuit inside the light housing breaks, there's no fix except to replace the light itself. The job is pretty easy, you need a torx to pull the panel off the inside of the tailgate, a torx and a 10mm to get the door latch mechanism unbolted, and then you can just unclip the light. Changing mine took about 15 minutes.

Agreed, when I bought mine used a year ago the 3rd brake light wasn't working. Checked YouTube and found an easy procedure to remove & replace. I did order a Mopar replacement though.

Hopefully they have fixed this issue as it seems it has been a problem for a good while.

Mine has been out for awhile.
Might be easy to replace, but $100 for a new one?

Has anyone tried to look at the board to see if there is a part we can replace? I am sure they are all surface mount though.

It’s a common issue that screams for an aftermarket solution.

Mine went out after about 2 1/2 years. It was replaced under warranty.

Someone on here took it apart and soldered the connections on the inside and fixed it.
I’m on my second light and it’s malfunctioning. Didn’t work yesterday but was working this morning. It has a mind of its own.
See, this makes me think that a wire is breaking loose.

It's one of those Jeep thing. There are many other common issues and Jeep ain't doing anything about it for years. Bet one of the reason why they are going down right now.

Everyone could start putting in reports to the NTSB about the "rear lighting safety equipment failure" and see if we get enough traction to get it looked at for a recall or TSB.
