3rd brake light a common issue?

I just had this problem while my Gladiator. It was at the dealer for a leaking rear axle seal and I figured I'd get a state inspection while it was there.
They informed me that it wouldn't pass because of the 3rd brake light and they couldn't release the vehicle.
Luckily I have an extended warrantee that cover the repair.
I only had to pay my $100 deductible.
The invoice price for the repair was $637.93
Let's just say that I was very glad to have the extended warrantee.

Just discovered I have this issue while researching a fault code reported in the BCM. My extended warranty deductible is $99 so I guess I’m buying a new light, great.

So I've got the 3rd brake light replaced, any suggestions on diagnostic tools to clear the BCM fault code B16B7-15? Mainly something that can provide the security gateway unlock. TIA

Without a bypass cable, you are going to need a high level scan tool like Launch, Autel or similar that supports having a paid ($60) yearly subscription to Auto Authority that can tunnel through the SGW.

Way cheaper to just get Jscan and a bypass cable to do the clearing. That fault code will only show as a history code anyway and never will set the MIL.

Funny that it'll only generate a code and not a lamp out for safety related item.

Right? I only discovered the fault code playing around with a OBD reader for my wife’s car. I have no idea how long the light had even been out.
