Part of the diesel appeal for me was the sound of the engine, so to each their own. Compared to older diesel engines it’s fairly tame when it comes to engine noise.

Disassembling the JJ to grease them would be easy enough when brand new and not installed into the Jeep yet. Might not be a bad idea. I haven’t committed to a lift kit / control arms yet. Still thinking it over and waiting for Black Friday sales.
Why not just grease them before install through the house mounted zeark? Then there is no pressure on the ball and grease should flow in and you can rotate the ball.

Disassembly was the suggestion by @BlueScapegoat because it was something he’d done in the past that seemed to work well. I may not even run Johnny Joints so it’s just a consideration at this point

Wheels shipped so maybe I can mock something up soonish to see what kind of clearance I’m working with.

That's what I did. I kept adding grease until the joint got really stiff and a small amount of grease oozed out of the joint.

They used to have a reputation for not taking grease well. I had brand new ones in the past that couldn't take grease. But if you're able to get grease into them through the zerk without excessive pressure, I'm sure that's adequate. That grease is going somewhere and there's not many places it can go.

On the flip side, I like to fiddle with stuff and disassembling them to grease used to be common recommended practice. So I sat at my workbench with some youtube and beers and took a couple hours taking them all apart and greasing them. If nothing else it gave me an understanding of how they're assembled and a work process to rebuild one quickly, not that I'll ever need to.

Digging up this thread. I'm on a Willys with narrow axles and an Evo short arm lift with 17x9 -38mm 3.5" BS wheels and wanting to move to 40s. I already have Dynatrac pro steers and an Artec truss, so if like to run these axles for a while. Mine gets wheels pretty hard, I'm currently on chopped sport flares with 3" of bump up front. Anyone else with 40s and narrow axles want to chime in?

You'll be fine, I ran those same spec wheels on my narrow's both before and after wheel spacers. I had tereflex 4.5" short arm kit, artec truss and RPM steering bars; super similar to yours. I went to Windrock with that setup before replacing my front axle.
