I certainly believe it was attempted. I just don't think it ever got far enough along to warrant so much as a footnote on a quarterly report.

The official wording was "As customers’ propulsion preferences for battery-electric trucks continue to evolve, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will no longer include an electrified Gladiator variant in the Jeep lineup".

But until someone with a Stellantis badge creates an account here we're probably never going to know the full reasoning behind it.
We literally have someone with a stellantis badge in here that has confirmed that it was only cancelled due to towing running the batteries flat and not able to keep them charged. If not we'd have gotten a 4xe gladiator this year but the technical constraint killed it.

While that may have been a factor in their final decision, I'm pretty sure the engineers knew a long time ago what the battery limitations were going to be in the Gladiator, but that didn't stop them until a new presidential administration took over and canceled every financial incentive for continuing EV.

I've been saying for a long time (https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ng-says-head-of-jeep-brand.72850/post-1190324) that the 4xe wasn't ever going to exist. Amy Delcamp, director of Jeep Brand Communications confirms it here:

“The Jeep Gladiator carries its rugged styling and authentic design into 2026 while adding incredible new content straight from the factory. It will continue to serve as the industry’s only open-air pickup truck, combining legendary Jeep 4×4 capability with exceptional everyday versatility,” said Amy Delcamp, Director of Jeep Brand Communications, in response to an emailed request for comment.

“As customers’ propulsion preferences for battery-electric trucks continue to evolve, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will no longer include an electrified Gladiator variant in the Jeep lineup,” she continued. “The Jeep brand has already begun reinvesting funding to ensure the long-term growth of the Jeep Gladiator and will introduce even more customer-requested factory features, customization, and additional powertrain options in the near future.” (1)

I pointed something out August 20 of last year. That was the day that a UAW manager was the first- and only- person to ever say that anybody was ramping up for production of a 4xe Gladiator in any official sense outside of a couple of YouTube videos with ambiguous promises. And we still hadn't even seen a mule. There was an announcement of a new transmission, but that's par for the course.

But I knew that it wasn’t ever going to happen when that news clip dropped on local Toledo news. Because in WHAT WORLD does a publicly traded company such as Jeep make a platform that is going to share its most successful recipe (the Wrangler 4xe, which at the time, and probably still is, the best selling PHEV in the states) and let a freakin’ UAW manager be the one to announce it on local news. Thats insane. That’s an investor phone call followed by a powerpoint presentation that you invite the press to. But instead… a 5 minute interstitial on local news? Thats CRAZY. That isn't real.

It was at that point- literally the point at which I saw that newscast- that I knew it was never going to exist.

The next day- august 21, 2024, I offloaded every one of my shares of STLA at about $16/share. Because in my entire life I have NEVER seen a situation where news that is that significant is announced by a union boss on local news. It makes NO SENSE. I honestly thought I was taking crazy pills. I was being told I was crazy. Obviously you can see based on the length and emotion in this post that I was pretty scarred by people telling me I was a moron.

And then the CEO did a little dog and pony show with the TrailRecon guy, which again, is NOT how a CEO would announce that their publicly traded company is putting their best selling formula into a (at least by sales numbers) middle of the road truck.

I still get frustrated thinking about just how many people looked at me like a had a great big green... appendage.... on my forehead when I brought all of this up to them.

Anyways. It feels good to be right.
