Out of the 5 Rams Ive owned over the years 4 of them ( all Hemis) had the issue where the exhaust manifolds warp and break the studs. I got the kit from ProMax for removing the broken studs and never had one I could not get out. The kit is pricey but well worth it. On my last Ram ( traded for the Gladiator) I replaced the OEM manifolds with headers. That was a mistake because 6 months later the headers cracked. I took the warped OEM manifolds down to a machine shop and had them sanded down level again and bolted those back up. I got real tired of working on my truck and its cramped and hard to do when dealing with the manifolds. Everyone says they will warp again but Ive traded my Ram before that will happen. Ive had my fill with the Hemi manifold issue! If you decide to do the work on your Commander checkout https://promaxxtool.com/ Ill bet you the same kit for the Ram would do the Commander. The tool is top notch! I know the Pentistar may have its issues but im so glad to get out of a Hemi. Lastly BD Diesel makes an upgraded OEM Hemi Manifold that is not supposed to warp. https://us.bddiesel.com
I had a 2015 1500 5.7 and they had to work on my Hemi and the exhaust manifold problems Two times. The first was just the bolts. The second still under warranty was the more extensive fix. I believe they may have put the "better" manifold similar to a ProMax fix. No problems for the next 30K miles till I traded it at 70K. My dealership had a dedicated tech fixing the 5.7 Hemis. That was 80% of his job. He said he took his and bought the after market exhaust manifolds of some sort and also mentioned titanium bolts of some sort? He said he did it proactively when he got his, but it likely was easy and no labor.

They could easily do a Promax type fix at production. I'm pretty sure they actuarily figured out it wasn't worth it and damn the customers. I wouldn't expect a change if they start putting them back in Rams or now in Jeeps.

Remember the 100K mile power train warranty on the Rams that was reduced to 60? 70K there around 2016? That tech told me it was because of the Hemi problems and the costs. That was another example of not taking care of the customer. So, some of it rumor but it all rang true. I still had three Hemi 5.7's. I presently have a 6.4 in my 2500.

I'd have to sit back and count the number of HEMI vehicles I have owned over the years. Loved each one of them. However, after owning my wife's Wagoneer with the twin turbo Hurricane as well as my neighbor just picking up his Ram RHO....

I'd rather see the Hurricane with twins under the hood versus a HEMI.

I could have easily towed my present trailer 8400 max tow weight/800 wet tongue weight with the SO Hurricane. Instead, my 2021 5.7 Hemi with mostly mountain towing was not a comfortable tow even though I was within specs, So, I went Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi and I love it. BUT if I get another one, it likely won't be first NA and second a Hemi...

I think that sweet spot for people could be a big seller. I still would NOT tow a fifth wheel with a 1500, but that is more of a personal decision now than in the past when it was a "power weight" issue.

When I bought my Ram 2500, the guy that traded it in didn't like the lack of stability he got with his previous dually, so he upgraded back to a dually. Open road desert crosswinds were a b**** in New Mexico, so I could see it playing a factor. I def wouldn't want a 1500 for a 5th wheel either.

Jeep is already planning on a hybrid version this year. I doubt they would invest in a V8 version when things are already more compact and efficient. Listen, I wished they did a V8 with a 6 speed, that would be amazing. The reality is that it's a mid-size pickup, the mpg of a V8 would not meet regulations (as you mentioned) and the JT is currently preforming poorly in its market segment.
There was a time when the world turned upside down ….

I bought a new 2021 Mohave. Drove it for a year and around 12k miles. Sold it for $1500 OVER what I paid for it just a year earlier.

but that was during the pandemic inventory drought - so, ya….a unicorn.

when the JT first came out it was doing awesme in sales, around 75k vehicles a year. Lately its been around 50-55k vehicles a year. A lot of that is due to higher interest and we are now finally seeing the excessive markups on them coming down too. I'm hopeful because i think the JT is a hell of a truck, thats why i choose it over any other mid-size truck. (mainly for the manual trans haha)

I just dont want to get hopes up for a V8 and be let down
JT brother here too,

Hell of a truck, add the security buttons and whatever other nonsense, register it as the half ton of already is. Currently it's in the same class as the new Maverick.... That'd almost fit in the bed of a gladiator. Just saying

I’d typically say I’d buy a hemi JT in a heartbeat but took an absolute bath in less than a year. I’ve had jeeps on and off for 20 years. 6 TJs, 3JLs and a grand Cherokee. CEO of FCA even helped when one of my JLs had an issue and they replaced the entire jeep.

problem I have is feel really screwed - can’t imagine buying a new jeep again. My Mojave x this time last year was $68k, had to get out of my raptor for fitting into a garage and made sense. Less than a year later the same packaged JT is almost $5k less and even worse, incentives are so deep can get another $10-20k off. At this point I’ll leave this as a weekend / around town beach car worst case but not great. Would be all over a V8 if I didn’t think I’d lose tens of thousands within a year.

I say bring on the changes, as long as the frame, front clip, etc., remains the same. I won’t be buying a new one, but assuming they make it the “standard” and not like a obnoxiously priced 392 it would put the parts out there to eventually replace a blown 3.6 with a V8 without dropping 30k.

Thats wishful thinking though. What will probably happen is they’ll put a 5.7 or something in there and make it a halo vehicle for the platform, charge a premium, then say “well, we made it, no one bought it.” and can the whole JT platform.

I saw another interesting video online by TK talking about Ram making a street truck where you can a aftermarket turbo or supercharge or a performance tune from Ram that will protect warranty.

With the DOT and EPA slashing regulations and emissions I wonder if this could be a reality. With that in mind i wonder if Jeep will go back to drawing board and speak to a compony like hamburger or Magnusson for crate options and factory tune upgrades on 3.6 Penn.

No one will go back to the drawing board with the current situation changing DOT and EPA, all it's doing is showing the auto makers that regulations can be flipped every 4 years, so don't make any plans. They will continue to go off of what California requires, because making the most money is the only objective.

If your wishes come true. And s v8 JT is offered. You will fondly remember when your JT only lost 50% value in 3 years.

It will be like early JKU with the 3.8 in resale.

I am not a big fan of the current 5.7l with MDS. MDS is the weak link with the engine. I have disabled the MDS on my 5.7l Grand Cherokee. One day it will fail on me since all of the related parts are still there. If I ever have to dig into the engine, I will remove those parts and block off what I need to. I think the 5.7l has as many issues as the 3.6l Pentastar. Yes, the power would be appreciated.

Even with a more relaxed EPA, there will not be any going backards on emissions.

When they put the 5.7 in the JT ours will be worth nothing unless the 5.7 adds 40K to the price.
