My 2021 Willys is going to need a new clutch soon. After reviewing a lot of threads I have read both good and bad reviews of most of the choices. I just want it to be more “old school” than the OE. If the new clutch engages like a truck, I don’t mind at all, it is a truck.

Since many clutch manufacturers have had issues with the JL/JT setup, which ones have fixed those issues? I’ve seen McLeod, ACT, Centerforce, South Bend… Any other manufacturers that I need to look into?

Have you done the clutch recall yet? If not, you can get a new clutch from Jeep for free. It may feel a little better since it will be new and I think they made some slight revisions since 2021. Plus, it will save you a lot of $$$.

If you do stay with the factory clutch, I recommend that you swap the clutch pedal spring to the ACT one. It makes the factory clutch feel better. The stock spring masks some of the clutch engagement feel. It’s a super cheap and easy mod.

That's cause you pay the price in blood trying to finagle that damn thing into the back of your pedal. At least I did. I did notice a difference though. Worth the $10 I paid for it, for sure.

From my experience, no change in the new clutch, just feels better at first because it’s new

My only experience was ACT, great basic clutch if you just want a basic option. I like the mcleod throwout, just don’t know if I like the complexity added if there is an issue

🤣, this is true, I did cut my hand up but still worth it.

When I bought this, almost two years ago, I researched and there were no open recalls. So I assume (yeah, that word) that it has been completed.

I will verify the clutch recall, and purchase the spring, hope that helps while I navigate clutch options. I just want it to be more positive, and operate properly.

Thank you all, and if there are more issues that I need to address, please let me know.

Agree with @JerseyMark. I put the ACT pedal spring on my 2022 and it felt a lot better.

I never did the recall on my 2022 but if they are replacing recall clutches with what is on my 2024 (the year they resolved and stopped recalling) it is significantly improved. Much firmer and consistent pedal pressure and I didn't even have to use the ACT pedal spring. Also doesn't stall out at low rpm crawls the way my 2022 did.

I actually ordered the ACT pedal spring to put on my 2024 6MT Rubicon. I never drove a pre-2023 manual gladiator so I can't compare my '24 to those clutches but I really hope the ACT spring gives me a more enjoyable heavier clutch. The clutch is the only complaint I have about this car (as long as I ignore my MPGs).
