Looking to add a kicker hs 8 or 10 inch subwoofer. I mainly listen to rock and metal so don't need window shaking bass. Is it worth the extra money for the 10 inch sub or will the 8 inch sub work fine for what I listen to?

Thanks

Running a Kenwood Powered 8" and it works great. IMO 8 will be sufficient based on your planned and preferred use.

Hard hitting quick bass that rock and metal produce would be better with an 8" as it will recover faster and keep it tight. The 10" will probably do fine but depending on how fast the beat is will determine if it starts to sound muddy at all.

Agree with the comments about 8” covering your needs.
I will say that much like tire size or lift height, buy once, cry once.
Size envy is real.

Alpine has a nice kit for an 8" sub that goes under the passenger seat. It includes a plug n play harness that works with the OEM head unit or aftermarket head units. Makes the whole install really simple.

Unfortunately it doesn't include a capacitor so you will need to plan that out and purchase / install separate, but it's a good foundation to build off. Really easy to tap into those wires from the alpine kit and add a second sub under the driver seat.

I just installed the kicker hs 10, and it’s perfect for what I was looking for. As you, I did not want anything that was window rattling. This adds that little bit extra that it lacks. I went with the 10 due to the size and price difference being minimal.

Just go for the 10" you wont regret it. I personally think the kicker Comp 10" is perfect for the gladiator plus its under $200. Build a box for $40 and put it under the rear seat.

More for you Metalhead.. I mounted the Kenwood between the back seat vertically attached with adhesive Loop and Hook (velco). I was an underseat model; however after watching a Trail Seven YouTube I got the idea.. look that up on youtube.

The cabs aren't that large I have an 8" sub and it will vibrate the seats and mirrors . 10" would be overkill

I ran stereo contests with my 87 Comanche.
I had 2 8" subs in a custom made enclosure I made using a computer program. It fit perfectly behind the seats, attached to the rear wall of the cab. I mounted the cross-overs for the other sets of speakers on the box, found carpet that matched the carpet of the truck exactly, mounted the jack and handle on the enclosure as the factory had those on the rear wall of the cab where I attached the sub enclosure.
I then had 2 pairs of midrange and 2 pairs of tweeters in the truck.
So there were 4 tweeters, 4 midrange, and 2 8" subs.
I had two amps under the seats - one for the subs and the other for the other speakers.
I had to carry tools in the glove box to keep the interior trim screws tight and the mirror kept shaking loose off the metal mount of the windshield.

I was always in the top tier with sound pressure levels in that little truck. I never placed first, always came in second in my class - I didn't like the highs others liked, I'm a drum person, percussion, bass guitar and so on, so they didn't care for my EQ settings.

I now have to wear good hearing aids and can't even watch TV without them.

We generally pay in old age for what we did in our younger years..............

So pulled the trigger on a kicker 8 inch sub from trailseven.com. I think this will work out fine for me. Thanks for all the replies.
