I ripped both batteries out and installed a giant tesla coil through the hood. It works great, and the lightning bolts it creates help with illumination at night. 10/10 stars!

Mine is still factory stock but my Tazer keeps the ESS as a no-show. When I need new batteries I might just remove the Aux battery and put in a big main. The ESS has no value but I could always run it when I want the system checked. I'll cary a nice NOCO emergency battery for a start.

I was reading through this thread and another thought popped into my head. My guess is that the engineers and bean counters that gave us the Jeep ESS system also worked on the climate control system for the cab. I NEVER know what I'm going to get when I turn that thing on.

Hi, I'm an engineer. I know way more about design for $MakeingPeopleHappy and $BuildingReliableTrucks than the geniuses in the accounting and pricing department who control the actual design trade space. If you let me and my friends run wild you'd have an amazing truck, it would also cost $250K to build, so you win some and you lose some.
Engineers must have had Pinto beans day of design

Here is a photo of the aux battery that came in my Jeep. Note the warning label regarding charging voltage. I'm still trying to resolve the warning with the operation of the Jeep charging system (charging at 14.5 to 14.7 all winter).

What's that phrase, 'embrace the suck' ?

The two battery design has been around for a long time. It was purposely used, and is not going away. It amazes me how many people think they know more than the engineers who had to deal with the list of design requirements and then put it together and make it work.
It amazes me that some manufacturers/engineers create complete crap that forces us dumb people to use a feature we don’t want or need.
I wondered why all manufacturers don’t use this awesome feature across all makes and models? Maybe their engineers aren’t as smart as Stellantis.
