So i replaced my main battery today (i charged it before installing) and unfort... still getting the start/stop error. Both batteries are now new. I had the negative harness disconnected for 10 mins or so while i installed the battery- which should've reset the IBS? Should I now try fully disconnecting the IBS from the negative wires? Trying to think what else i can try to fix this stop/start error without bringing it to the dealer (never a fun experience).

Did you have the IBS off the battery and disconnected from the negative cables?

I've had to disconnect both battery cables to remove all power from the jeep to clear the error light. The error light can also be triggered by an engine malfunction that disables the ESS system.

This is what I did. I left it like this for about 25 mins and still getting the error. Guess I might have to take it to a dealer to reset or figure out what else is off?

It looks like your aux battery is still connected, is there power to the dash electronics?

Hmm. ok. So I need to separate the two negative wires from each other to reset the ibs? I thought just disconnecting both of them from the post/ibs would accomplish the reset. Im new at this.

What you did should reset the IBS, but it is recommended to also disconnect the wire that feeds data to the computer. Disconnect the negative cables so the system loses all power (reboot) for about ten minutes.

You reset the IBS, but that didn't clear the error.

I'm kind of wondering the charge condition of the aux at this point. I would disconnect the aux as suggested and put a charger back on it. Maybe even put the charger back on the main. If you want to truly reset the IBS, start with fully charged batteries.

So- i repeated the process and did notice that even with things disconnected like in the below pic- key less door unlocked worked- so the jeep had power. I then separated the two negative wires and everything went dead. Let it sit a few minutes, reconnected everything, and started the jeep. No more ess error code :) I also noticed that the color scheme of the touch screen seems to have reset itself so it seems clear that everything got reset (my radio presets are still there tho).

One last question just for my own knowledge- to remove the ibs from the computer do i just pull the wire off? I didnt notice any snap or lever. I was afraid of breaking it which is why i just went to the 2 negatives instead.

Yes, in this picture, the aux battery is still providing power. Those two ground cables are 1.) aux and 2.) body, so if they're still connected then the aux is still connected to the body, and therefore still providing power to the system. So this all makes sense.

Glad the code cleared for you.
