I wasn’t planning on recalibrating when I went to 35s on my Mojave but the transmission just seemed way off with them. I live in a really hilly/mountainous area so that might have made it worse. Did the Tazer and all seems normal again. Glad I got it anyway cause I got to fix about 5 other things that annoyed the piss out of me, too.
The JT has no idea how fast it's going, MPH wise. It knows only wheel RPM engine RPM, and what gear it's in. The difference between factory 285-75-17 and 35s is about 5%. It's not going to matter if you re program.
I had the same issue when I went to 315/70/17's. 2nd gear dragged/lagged until I let off the gas then it would shift. After I adjusted the tire size (JSCAN) it went away.
Funny how people "Assume" it doesn't matter because nothing broke and "it's only xx%" and "it doesn't know" Well, yeah, it sort of does, and yeah, it matters - if you dig deep into the details on these, it matters.
As far as running larger tires and not resetting the tire size - I wonder if any dealer has pointed to the fine print in the warranty and suggested someone was trying to fool them on actual miles and ruled - sorry, out of warranty because you didn't reset the speedometer with the larger tires and you have actually driven a couple thousand more than you claim.
Yeah, extremely unlikely but if it's a major issue, why feed them their reasons with a spoon.
There are things in the modules that reference speed, and it uses that information accordingly.
That includes your ambient air temperature sensor, among other things including engine controls and transmission controls.
