Just ran into this new release by Aliner Campers. This Switchback is a very unique concept for camping with a pickup. Measured my Mojave and you would have to install and travel with the tailgate down or just remove the tailgate and it would stick out about even with the back of the bumper. Just thought I would post this and get feedback as to its utility.

We built my current off-road trailer with one goal in mind....be the first person completely done with any setup and with a whiskey in my hand at camp. This pop-up seems to accomplish that so it's a win in my book.

I camped next to one of their trailers in the Cataloochee area a couple of years ago, and it was about as utilitarian as you could get. It was great.

I love the A-Liner trailers. Seem to be very well built compared to the rest of the pop up trailer world.

This is very intriguing but how would one remove it from the bed easily to do truck stuff?

I was watching a YouTube video about it and they are planning to have side jacks that could be used to unload and load. Price is quoted at $9500.

No galley, no lav and for $9,500? A tent and sleeping pad will suffice.

I never understood the role of campers which don't have bathrooms. No bathroom, get a tent.
They're nice for hunting when its raining and snowing to have a place to hang out instead of crouching in a tent. We have also had bears pull people out of tents around here, so if you're worried about that kind of thing they can feel more secure. I've had wolves outside my tent in the middle of the night, super cool but kinda freaky at the same time.

Now that I am retired I take trips to see the USA and like to camp in National Forests and BLM land. As I travel about 3:00 pm I will start looking for someplace to spend the night. Just head off road with my Mojave and camp. I currently have a Leer fiberglass topper that I sleep in at an angle. Have electric heat and fan as needed. Carry along a plastic portable toilet that I put outside and use wet wipes to clean up. I precook everything before I leave and put it in 12 volt refrigerator that’s in the back seat. The key is the Mojave that can get to places that very few other campers would go. I cannot see any reason to get larger than I already am. My biggest concern about this Switchback would it be able to take the pounding of medium off-road travel.

It's already way above the bed sides/rails on that fullsize truck... it'd be even higher in our shallow beds... would this even fit between the wheel-wells?

I’m trying to find out if it will fit in a Gladiator. Communicating with ALiner right now. Will let you know. Did some measurements with what they supplied in the brochure and my Mojave and it will just barely fit through my 7 foot garage door. Might even have to take some air out the tires to play it safe.

I really like how organized your system is especially precooking and using the 12V fridge. I’ve heard mixed things about the Switchback’s off-road durability; maybe wait for some real-world reviews before switching.

Some National Forest and parks require hard sided campers, no tents allowed.

I saw that camper at Overland East, it is quite small in person. It was in a 4x6 utility trailer.
