Aluminum Hood means no need for a stone shield? Other than for looks?

I am pretty sure the JT hood is aluminum. Its -11F outside right now so magnets aren't working (JOKE- I'm too cold to go outside). See: https://www.repairerdrivennews.com/...ck-sports-much-exterior-aluminum-steel-frame/

I was looking at bug shield/stone deflectors and came across this which I really like but this dude says @0.25ish () that these will prevent rock chips on the leading edge of your hood and save you from the attendant rust issues. So which is it? AL hood never rusts and marketing shenanigans? Or steel hood means I should keep looking for a shield/deflector?

Rust or no, rock chips still look like pooh.
And aluminum doesn’t rust, but it does oxidize, forming a white powder.

Yep - I know about aluminum corrosion. My 2003 LR Disco 2 is all aluminum except for the doors and roof which are steel. I have rock chips (and much worse 😁 ) on the aluminim parts and basically nothing. The steel parts rust immediately and if I don't clean up quickly (within a couple of months) the rust starts to bubble.

If you're trying to avoid rock chips I'd just PPF.

I was under the impression that those were more to avoid rock chips on your windshield than your hood. Either way, chipped paint looks like crap either way, aluminum or steel.

I bought a little thing of Mopar Gator touch up paint. Just my preference, but I'd rather touch up the paint if needed instead of screwing a big shield to my hood.

Screws are for show. This version uses 3M tape...

That's why mine uses adhesive :D

Also, I'm partial to sea salt and vinegar :) The "new" dill pickle Lays are actually REALLY good. They're basically salt and vinegar with a little hint of dill, if you're into that.

Yeah tape would be a lot better. I've had one of those things before, but I'd just as soon deal with the damage if it happens.

I'm sorry but I don't agree. Oh I'm okay with the adhesive part of your post - that's great, but not the pickle chips part. I love me some real ice cold dill pickles that haven't been messed with in some way, but Pickle Lays are nothing like vinegar and salt chips. Can't stand 'em. Same for deep fried pickles that some restaurants offer as an app. Nasty. :puke:

How much one likes their pickle is personal bidness and doesn’t belong on a Jeep forum...

Mine is covering a pretty good sized stone chip but yes I like the looks myself.
