Fairly close to payload is a very strong argument for switching to LT tires.

In many circumstances, the 'P-rated" tire as a higher load capacity than the LT tire. I tow exclusively with P-rated Michelin Denfenders on my 2015 and 2020 Ram EcoDiesel. The benefit of running a P-rated tire is the fuel economy gains when running empty. With that said, P-rated tires are risky when off-roading.

My Gladiator Rubicon came factory with LT tires (Load C). Since I do some off-roading, I'm glad that I have the extra protection from punctures.

That kind of explains something I noticed then, on my drive up north this past week. I stopped and checked the temps of the trailer tires (sidewall,) brake drums, and center caps of the axle and noticed the passenger side (which would've been the sunny side) was about 10-15F warmer than the drivers side.

I really would get something with some different.
But I will say I didn't even have mine for a week and went over a mountain Scenic Highway with 1.5-2
0 foot of snow that is not maintained by the state in the winter. Just do it !!

Things must have changed over the years…..or, it’s where you live.

Back years ago, I belonged to and help run offroad clubs. We never promoted offroading by yourself, and we always promoted “Tread Lightly”. The offroad parks here (on the east coast), do not allow you to go by yourself. There isn’t much (or any) places to go offroad that isn’t private land or is illegal to be there.

"The off-road parks" you have been to maybe. East of the Mississippi River. I've been to a few, none that I've been to required to be in a group. I've been at them by myself. On the "tread lightly" that I do but still see many who don't. Which is part of the reason Tellico got shut down.

No kidding, they tore up the 4wheeler trails in many of the places I have been to. To the point my 850 High-Lifter 4wheeler was bogged down a ft from edge of mud puddle in one trail I was riding a few months back. I spent an hour winching to turn around.

So after one of the 4Fest events, I picked up a set of "deflators" that screw onto your valve stem, you set them to the desired PSI and let them go. When I was originally planning my trip and planning to solo the trail, I also picked up a Harbor Freight compressor that connects directly to the battery by a couple clamps to re-inflate the tires...



So I'm on the stock Bridgestone Dueler H/T tires, which from what I can find on Tirerack.com, are "truck" tires and not passenger tires. So that should be good (unless I'm reading things wrong, which wouldn't be surprising)

I ran the stock set "AT's" on mine until I started getting punctures at least weekly if not daily, then swapped to the set of them and did that again (H/T's) . I thought I was going to use all the plugs up in my Safety Seal tire kit.

Yes the sidewall. And I left off the decorative covers on the trailer bearings so I can touch the bearing caps themselves. One quick touch of 4 truck tires and 2 trailer tires and 2 trailer bearing caps tells a lot. If you travel a long way in one direction on a sunny day then there is a noticeable difference in temperature between the side facing the sun vs the other side, so don't panic if they are not identical.

I use trailer tire sensors that measure both temperature and PSI. You can set the alarm to trigger at whatever PSI or temperature that you choose. It's a huge peace of mind while towing.

yea... a damn shame about Tellico. We went on a couple week-long club trips down there. It was a blast!!

I go off-roading in the desert with the stock street tires stock everything its fine.

You can get D and E rated ATs if you want a better off road tire that still has no problem towing. I wouldn't hesitate to tow with the 37" MTs on my mojave but I've been driving Jeeps mostly on MTs for ~30 years.

I have towed with my MT's and yes if your used to the difference it is not a thing no hesitation here either

Yep it's a Jeep , they are the Falken AT when I did that . They actually did surprisingly well.

I have those tires still as well and I've been pretty darn impressed with them. I expected more sliding action but they do pretty darn good on ice!

I only had to use 4low one time cause snow drifts was into the grill for a mile or so and I was spinning oddly and went to low locked front and rear both in and it was all it needed to conquer that section. That highway receives so much snow. Snowmobiles run on it.

It already had the winter air in em . Bought it in a snow storm on 17th of December. Salesman took my trade in to her house to get home. (2015JKU)

If you are running truck tires, they will have the letters "LT" in front of the tire size, like LT265/17. Dueler H/T is just the tire brand name. If there is, for example, a P265/17, that's a passenger car tire.

Hmm, interesting, I didn't see a P or LT on the size, only 265/17 (or whatever it is)

So my guess from that would be, they're P tires.
