I think we can conclude this is a terrible feature and serves no good purpose. Put that one in the suggestion box
Just because it's an inconvenience doesn't make it bad. It makes you stop and be aware of what you're doing. It is a specific feature put in place to solve a specific problem, because someone died.

No... It is bad. People die falling down stairways and we still have them. In fact people die in vehicles every day and we still have them. Come to think about it, people die in their sleep and we still sleep!!! AND.... people die from being morons, and we still have them.....

And those are all things that cannot be stopped with a software update. FCA made a decision that affected the whole lineup, and upset some customers, to save lives and prevent future lawsuits. It won't go away, and eventually will be on most vehicles.

Thank goodness a $10 part defeats this nonsense. If FCA thinks they they can protect every idiot from themselves they will be sadly mistaken.

Ehh no thanks. I don't want my life idiot proofed by eggheads listening to lawyers. If there is any vehicle with a customer base who should be inherently against this mindset its Jeep. Prius owners I would understand. But Jeeps are by nature edgy. Top off, doors off, 4wd etc. Hey people could die and have. I appreciate some freedom. Way down on the list of dangers I am concerned about is moving my vehicle with the door not shut. In fact I want to do that at times

Thanks guys. Other vehicles just squawk at you that your door is "ajar". You can drive all the way to mexico like that if you want. Meanwhile Jeep throws you through the windshield to remind you to be safe. And yes makes you spill your beer. Whats even more bizarre is this is the only vehicle you can drive with the doors off yet it freaks out if the door is partially closed. What da helllll
Blame Jeep’s “rollaway risk”, by which your Jeep can slip out of park and, if you happen to get in the way, it can run you over.

Star Trek lost of one of its starsno pun intended. He was found under his idling Jeep.

When I first bought the JT I was stuck in a gas station for 15 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't go. My wife was with me and she was crackin’ up! ?

Haha. That makes me feel better. First time it happened to me I drove from the dealer when I picked it up straight to discount tire to put the new wheels on. The tech was right next to me telling me what bay to drive in. Clunk. I screech to a halt. He's literally laughing at me and joked something about stalling out. I bet he was surprised when he saw it wasn't a manual. Meanwhile I'm sitting in the waiting room wondering wth happened.

My memory is full of guys maneuvering a truck in reverse with the door open and head sticking out so they could gauge their proper positioning. Now the truck is built to disallow this learned, and firmly imprinted, behavior. I doubt any consideration was given to “truck“ usage. We will likely never hear the story how someone died because a driver had to adapt his lifelong habits.

Oh, and don’t use Gorilla Glue on your hair because you are out of hair spray.

It happened to me when I first got it. I was trying to back in to a hotel parking spot at night. I tried opening and looking back to get as close as possible. After fighting with it for a few minutes, I gave up and used the backup camera. This is the first vehicle I've had with a backup camera. I now use it in conjunction with the mirrors, and don't try to open the door anymore when backing up.

Totally Agree but I have a 35 hp diesel tractor and 2 lawn tractors that shut off if I take my butt off the seat, When I put fuel in them I used to have to take all day and spill half the fuel (Fixed this-got new/old spouts), chainsaws run lousy due to safety measures-I could go on but Point being-I Don't like Forced Common Sense by a Bunch Idiots in GOVT That Don't Have Any!!

This feature is becoming more and more prevalent, FCA is far from the only one doing this. Our 2020 Acura also has this annoying feature, which I found out when I tried sticking my head out of the door to back up into the garage one time. Nice find on the seat belt extender, getting a set.
