Howdy all,
I needed some storage but didn't want to take up a lot of bed space by installing a full toolbox so thought this idea might work for my small stuff.
I plan on adding a lock to the box before I'm done. Heck, I might add one to the other side too.

just out of curiosity what have you used that farm jack for?
ive only seen one used 1 time in person in 20 years of wheeling and it was a failed attempt as a come along substitute
I've been buried up to my axles before and used it to lift from the trailer hitch.
I have a camping trailer where the hitch has fallen off the block of wood I had it on and the jackstand sunk into the sand all the way to where the tongue was in the ground (camping at the beach in soft sand). I used the farm jack to get the tongue back in the air.
I have also used it to lift my trailer up to get the tire off, in this instance I could have used the regular screw or bottle jack.
I think there are lots of times where getting under the axle is harder than lifting from the bumper.
I don't have it mounted in any fancy mount to show it off, it just sits in the bed for when I need it.

Plus, I feel like I'm a lot cooler when I have it with me. 😆

never go off road without a decent jack of some sort. The old farm jack have been proven and cost of one is nothing.

I always worry about where heavy unsecured items may land (like my head or someone else’s vehicle) when flying through the air in a high seed accident or rollover, but I’m a worry-wart.

I like that ammo box mounted like that; seems very useful. To add to the high lift comment, I’ve used those way more for things other than the vehicle that was hauling it - usually for heavy tongued trailers that usually didn’t have a proper lifting mechanism.

Should look into molle panels. Then get fixtures and attach the ammo boxes to that.

I'd consider getting a nice big bolt that goes from the inside of the can, through the latch, and out - something with a thick enough shank you can put a small lock on.

Same here. Like my Amex, I never leave home (for an off-road adventure) without it. I have the wheel lift that attaches, too. That thing really comes in handy if you're stuck in the mud and need to get a board under the wheel.

But I would advise securing it for both your safety and to prevent wandering eyes from relieving you of it.

Around my hood it is a decoration along with the ubiquitous rotopax can and recover boards, a must have. Apparently you can’t be a hard core off roady person without one around here. I’ve known couple dudes who have used them, one had a ram charger, he made his own bumpers and had built in some purpose built spots for it on the bumpers. I use bottle jacks and 2 by 4 stuffers if needed.

I do have a short length of cable locking it to the cargo tie-down. its on the end you can't see in the pick.
