17 is a fairly long time. That's the sort of dog face you just want to reach out to and make friends with. What a great pic.

Tuvak was only 14 1/2. That's a really short time. Punkin went to 19, most of the others hit at least 15-16.
A pretty long run for any dog.

It took me a couple years but I eventually got another doggo for a replacement.

Sorry for the loss of Tuvak. Two of my cats died while in the veterinarian's office.
One was very sick when I brought her in, the other was in for a routine exam and neutering.
Losing a beloved pet is a miserable experience.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m a huge animal lover and I get how hard it is to loose a pet. I’ve lost some great dogs and cats and I still think about them often. One dog, I think about daily.

I'm so sorry to read this. I know how special a pet can be, and that every so often one comes around that just connects in a whole different way. I lost that one 2 yrs ago, and still think of her daily. She was brought to the shelter at about 4 weeks old, she was 6 weeks when I met her, and brought her home at 8 weeks. She literally did not know she was a cat, or how to act like a cat. She was part of the family for almost 20yrs.

thanks to all - it was a hard hit for sure.
His brother, Koko, wanders the house looking for him and if Koko isn't sleeping, he absolutely INSISTS on one of our laps - meowing really loud and constant until we give him a lap. Poor Koko is deaf so that doesn't help matters.

It hit my wife a heck of a lot harder than she lets on.
I knew Tuvak was special - to both of us, he was a baby, insisting on cuddling, laying across shoulders, playing games with us, but I didn't realize how hard it hit her (a great one at hiding emotion and feelings) until I realized - she had put up one of the 3 trees before his death, decorated that corner of the kitchen/dining area, then just stopped. Normally by her birthday we are fill-tilt, all out decorated or there's a push to get things up all over the house.
Not this year. She's even said "how about we just do that one tree this year".
Then on the way back from my appointment in Iowa City, we stopped at a quilt store - the owner is a friend of hers.
The lady asked how we were doing, she mentioned all the stuff with my surgeries and so on, then said "and we lost Tuvak, a favorite cat, the day before my birthday, I just don't feel like decorating or doing anything".
Wow, I had wondered why no push to be the most decorated house in the county.

Tuvak and Koko (at 1 year)

Ready on their toy shelf - ready to literally throw or launch at you so you'll toss it back.
He'd bat it out of the air right back at you. You didn't ignore him - he'd throw cat toys at you.
He'd tip his head, get a really serious look as if "you WILL play with me"

My wife said "Pickle's eyes look different". Yeah, maybe, but I didn't see it really until yesterday late, and then they were "bulging".
He's got big feet, big ears and big eyes, but last night was different. This am there were red lines in his eyes, literally lines.
They took his blood pressure - fine at 120-130, measured the pressure in his eyes - right was fine at 17 and didn't look bulgy today, but the left was 35.
They say 20-25 is the max.
Just can't go through another thought of losing a second cat so fast - so I told them do whatever, scans, x-rays, blood tests (maxing out credit card, I'm sure).
Holiday week so won't really know results until next week.
In the meantime, besides the meds applied to his ear flaps for the thyroid issue, Pickle gets eye drops twice a day.
Pickle cried the whole way to the vet but was as sweet as could be while there, hugging and rubbing the vet and tech, even standing still while she shaved his leg to take his BP and didn't flinch when they checked his eye pressure or put in eye drops. Really baffled me as you do NOT touch his feet or ears without upsetting him. He was a perfect patient, never struggled at all.
After losing Tuvak a week ago, can't stand the thought of Pickle being sick

Animals seem to have a 6th sense when they know you are there to make them better. My Beagle hates anybody messing with his ears but once in a blue moon gets a yeast infection in one of them and readily submits to me cleaning and treating them.

Prayers that your Tuvak get this resolved.

Everytime something wasn't right. No matter what. Cooper would come to me , and not my wife. Which would piss her off.

Cats, by nature, hide anything that makes them appear weaker. They hide illnesses very well, often until it's too late. If they present as not feeling well or up to snuff in the wild, they are more vulnerable to predators. So you have to watch behavior really closely - eating, drinking, when and where they sleep, are they not coming up for attention as often or with as much vigor as they used to...............

Tuvak was super smart, and insisted on being with his people. He liked to fetch and carry his toy rats into the room where their feeder was and arrange them around the feeder. Knowing that some food was in the refrigerator, he eventually started laying them in front that that, too. When younger, he could leap from the floor and land up across my shoulder and there'd he'd lay, draped over my shoulder (purring in my ear)

Pickle is not up to snuff - and lays around a lot, doesn't come in for a good back scratching like he used to - he used to walk up close to me, drop, and then drag himself across the carpet in my wife's quilting machine room while I scratched his back.
I don't have a good feeling, and losing Tuvak already - can't stand the thought of losing another one so close in time. Pickle is my buddy.
He hangs around my wife while she's quilting and crafting and when she comes upstairs to watch TV or something - we hear him meowing as he comes up the stairs, with a stuffed toy in his mouth, and drops it like look what I brought you.
If we are both out for a while, we come home to find his toy we call "porky" (I think it's supposed to be a porcupine or something) upstairs in front of the door for us when we get home. He watches out the sunroom door for us to get back.

He hasn't done that for a few days now, and he never came in for a back rub this AM so I know he doesn't feel well.

Here's Pickle, looking for his mama to present the toy. No matter where we put that toy - in the cat tower downstairs, or hidden on her sewing table, or stuffed on a low shelf, he'd find it and bring it up as a gift.

Years ago, he would drag a cat toy that was a red pom-pom type ball on top of a long spring mounted on a carpet covered board about 4"x4" .We'd hear a clunk clunk clunk as he dragged it by the top up the stairs, then he switched over to porky. I guess the other was too much effort to get up the stairs!
