Hey everyone! Proud owner of a 21 JT Sport S after upgrading from a 96 XJ 2x4. Yes, 2x4.

I have a TPMS question and I know that the dealership is trying blow smoke and I need a recommendation on my next steps to fix this problem.

My pre-June 21 build JT came with 245/75/17 wheels and I purchased a set of post-June 21 build Mojave 285/70/17 factory take-offs. My wheels had 7000 miles and the take offs only had 3000. I took the wheels to my local tire store and had them swap the sensors, so now I am currently running with the new wheels and tires with my original sensors. Should be easy enough.

However, when I turn on the ignition, I receive the an error that says service the TPMS and the the driver's side front sensor shows no pressure. If I drive for 20 min, it reads a pressure but still says service the system. Went for my first free oil change at the dealership and explained the problem. Was told in no uncertain terms, "Well, it's because you don't have the original wheels on the truck and that I would have to buy 4 sensors with labor for $550 to fix the problem. I also inquired about updating the computer to the larger tire size and he said that they don't do that" I asked why all 4 when it's only 1 and he said "Every time you open up a tire you need to replace the sensor with a new one" What a bunch of horse S$@T! Time to drive to another dealer for my last two oil changes and any warranty work.

I went back to the tire dealer and they re-read all of the sensors and showed that they are all fully charged and working fine, so now I need a recommendation for the next step. I have ordered the parts to use JScan to reprogram the tire size, but I want to know how to fix the sensor issue without having to just replace it. Seems like it should just work since it is the original sensor and since the other three are working fine.

Thoughts??

It is always possible the sensor was damaged in the swap.
It's also possible the problem is with the truck itself reading the sensor. I'd swap the problem wheel/tire to another location and see if the issue follows or stays in the same location.

Actually you had a 4x2 XJ. A 2x4 is a piece of lumber.

Your dealership is run by retards. Find another dealership going forward.

Sounds like the one TPMS sensor got jostled enough in the change over to be marginal. I would just say cut your loses and have a new sensor installed.

My guess is the mechanic doesn't know how to use the TPMS programming tool. I've had a sensor replaced that the mechanic said he couldn't get it to work. Well, I have the same pro TPMS tool they used, and guess what? It works fine.

The sensors are self learning ... yes, swapping your originals should work. Order a new one from one of the Mopar Online vendors and have them install it. Do make sure it is verified by your VIN. Location of the problem sensor can be tricky ... I had an issue with my passenger side rear, but it was indicating driver side rear on the display?

It's most likely a sensor issue if you didn't have any issues before. I would take it back to the tire shop and see if they can confirm the condition of the sensor. I had my tires swapped at 2k miles and didn't do anything to the sensors, but I did keep the stock wheels though and had no problems. You can update the tire size and the TPMS pressure alarm if you get the JScan app.

No need to rotate the tires, just air one down, Change the pressure in each, one at a time, and see if it corresponds to the display. May have to take it for a short drive each time.
