70k miles… your “lifetime” fluid is now on borrowed time.

If one of your decisions is to pull an oil sample and have Blackstone or Polaris Labs give you a report, ask for an oxidation test. That would help us gather more data points and would answer how great this lifetime stuff really is.
Hey, Kevin - here's one for you -

1977 Chrysler Torqueflite 727 and 998 transmission (right out of the book)

I'm not saying I whole-heartedly support that, not in my experience............

BG gives kickbacks for sales. I still have some tokens in my toolbox that came in cans of BG fuel injector cleaner. You saved them and the BG rep would give you gifts when you got enough. What they gave out I never found out, I didn't stay there long. There is a good chance that parts guy is making personal bank moving BG product.

All the more reason to not use that parts dept. I never sell things to customers because I get commission from that vendor. I sell the correct product for the solution, period. Of that ends up making me money, so be it. But that shouldn’t be the reason to choose a manufacturer.

Total bs.
I can tell you from direct experience that when you get Jeep Wave oil change service, they will invoice out by Part Number that you got MOPAR oil but they are using whatever bulk oil they have on hand and many will put in 5W-20 in place of 0W-20. Not the most egregious example but none the less they will product substitute.

I have no doubt. Of course I ignored the “free” anything from the dealer. The last time it saw a dealer it was new and I drove it home. I won’t allow them to touch lug nuts, much less my oil filter housing.

I’m not saying everyone should do their own maintenance. It’s fun for me. But choose a mechanic you trust and make sure they’re using the products you want in your vehicle. If they won’t, they’re the wrong shop.

I agree, the customer/owner if they have the ability to do their own work, they should to minimize quality escapements.

Just that if one has to rely on a dealership for work, product substitutions should be disclosed so the customer can make an informed decision. I know to some dealerships and even independent shops, fluids are consider a consumable like the other shop supplies and they have no problem rationalizing product substitution as being under their discretion.

A lot them do it. Especially if it is customer pay non warranty work.
If I found they had done warranty work with that, or, used it without asking, the GM would be very involved. You really aren't saving much at all in fluid anyway.
And then there's the ...ok, you put in this transmission, my dime, with the MOPAR warranty on it and it has failed....
Do they LIE on the paperwork?

A lot of them? First I've heard that, I guess.

What do you think?

Its a subjective statement, but it is a big world outside Iowa.
Rehtorical question

Oh, we have our "issues". Cops called to county building when two county supervisors got into a screaming match and it got physical, lottery scams, don't even look at the meat processing plant records. They'd all go to jail.

That stuff isn’t only in Iowa. I lived in Florida for 20 years and my wife is a native. Florida man is not only real and a shape shifter, but has SO MANY relatives.

I'm picky who I deal with, but yeah, it's all over, across all businesses. If I caught them at it, people would know. Some of my reviews get quite a few hits. (I also leave very positive reviews where warranted. A guy at the internet provider should be getting a nice note of thanks from his supervisor by now)
