JL manual is one of the best manual transmissions I've owned (more than 20).

I agree 120%. The 6spd 2dr JL we have is a blast to drive. The new 6spd on the JL is one of my favorite upgrades from the JK. It's a night/day difference. My 4dr 6spd JL is great, but not nearly as fun as our 2dr.

Not blaming transmission !!!!!! its the low torque 3.6 get with the program .. or at least drive your Gladiator off road . although i doubt you do .

Jeep advertises that you can get a base Sport model with manual windows, mirrors and locks. And they advertise that you can get a manual transmission. I went to a local dealership about a week ago and I asked them to do a dealership search throughout the entire United States. And they could not find one single base Sport model truck. And they also could not find one single truck with a manual transmission. I thought that false and misleading advertising was against the law. To me if you say you can get it equipped a certain way then they have to build it that way. I am not an attorney but this is false advertising in my humble opinion.

Does anyone know of any base Sport models that were actually built and sold already or of any manual transmissions that have been built and sold already? Love to know if Big Foot really ever exists. Or is this a myth created by the dream team at Jeep?

The difference between manual and base sport is that you can order one and not the other. Dealers typically do not keep manual transmissions on the lot as most consumers can not operate them. Manuals have been in production for a week or
More now so we should be seeing them in person soon.

As for base sports. Jeep really needs to put “late availability” on their webpage as it is not available but advertised. #notalaywer

No one would ever try to sue Jeep over such a thing. But they would buy from another manufacturer who produces what they advertise that they will build. It’s just like casting your vote at the ballot box. Someone says they will do one thing then they do the opposite thing. And they pay for it when it comes to re-election time. To me it’s simple. If you advertise it’s for sale then you should build it if you want to maintain your reputation. Your word is everything and lots of people here are stuck in various statuses and are not happy campers. I see that in numerous different threads here.

People that cannot wait and go elsewhere with their money were then never in the market for a JT to begin with. Anybody that has done a little living in their lives knows that vehicle manufacturers over promise out the gate and takes time for everything to catch up.

Disappointment and hurt feelings for not getting what you want when you want is not fraudulent activity by Jeep.

I’m confused, is the new transmission the let down or the pentastar engine?

What does the alleged low torque have to do with shift feel and throw, gear noise and vibration & clutch feedback and feel?

Before my JK my manual Jeep was a CJ7 with the 4.2 and the T176 4 speed with Dana 300. The clutch throw was crunchy and long, the feedback consisted of umm umm umm okay full clutch NOW, the shift throw was long enough to hit the dash and the gate was like a worn out pair of pantyhose. The Dana 300 decided to shift on its terms and its terms alone and it didn’t care if it couldn’t find any range all of a sudden. But man my 4.2 had some torque, thank god because throttle response was a joke even with the Clifford intake and Holley 4bbl. Cold starts were a nightmare but it did have torque.

Most people who dislike the new D478 transmission say it's because the gear ratios are taller in 2nd through 6th so it has less power on the road, and because they've designed the clutch to have very light pedal effort which in turn kills it's towing capacity and also makes it difficult to modulate the clutch pedal in daily traffic.

Interestingly, I've read similar complaints in at least two mainstream magazine reviews.

I personally haven't driven one yet, but there is no way it could be worse than the NSG370 that was in the JK. Those were a train wreck.

I placed an order for a manual JT on Thursday (in the Punk'n Orange, so it will probably be Labor Day before I pick it up). I'm just curious if anyone on here has bought one with the 5 speed yet? If so, how is it? Other than the single youtube video review of a manual transmission JT, I haven't seen or heard anything.

A dealer placed an order for Punk'n Orange? I thought that was not available yet. Was the dealer actually able to place the order or have you just put a deposit down with a dealer for when you can order that color.

No doubt the latter, and Labor Day is very wishful thinking.

I am never exactly pleased with my 6sp but it’s nowhere near as bad as that old 5sp. I drove a JL with the manual and I have to say it’s a very light pedal and a nice crisp shift. I’m weird though, I’ll trade a heavy pedal for massive feedback for take up but I despise progressive pedals where effort is a curve not a line. They always want to pop into effort while you are trying to feed just the right amount of power. Booooo.

Totally agreed with this - the light pedal takes some getting used to but at least the travel is linear. Should make for better wheeling compared with an on/off switch progressive setup.

That is correct. On July 15th, the Orange will start production and the order will go in that day. I should have phrased it differently..

I REALLY wanted a Gobi truck. Waited until the color was released and ordered one. The dealer called back to say that manuals were on a hold and they couldn’t order one. Within an hour I found a Sting Gray Sport S (my 2ed color choice) manual transmission only a four hour drive away. I grabbed it immediately. That was 9/30/19. No regrets.

I’ve driven manuals for 45 years. Everything from VW Beatles to 18 wheelers. This transmission rocks! I love it!
