My transmission has started acting up. There is a delay shifting into reverse and it slams going into gears 2 and 3 when i first drive. The rest of the time i drive its fine. I am out of warranty by time and mileage. I havent had it looked at yet. If ends up being the transmission, i was just curious if anyone has installed a used one? Or if there is even much of a difference in price going used vs new.

Have not heard. But before you jump in, check for a REMAN trans Mopar and aftermarket like Certified Transmissions.. These come with parts and labor warranties. In my area . salvage yards offer 30 day parts only so if it fails someone is out labor again; and yes good salvage yards sell up grade warranties too. You'll probably find that the price differences are not that big.

Back in the day when I was being forced to replace my first transmission and before my insurance stepped in and did that, I hunted around for a new or near new transmission for my 21 JTR.

What I found was that transmission shops and even MIDAS up here in Calgary just logged in to their system and were made privy to these components and more that were on the quick sale because of write offs.

During this time of hunting a tranny down, I contacted “Quality Transmissions” and as we were on the phone, he was searching his system and found a Gladiator that that was being transported to a dealership in the Calgary area on a truck that went under a bridge deck too low that smashed off the top of the Gladiator. It was written off and the transmission was posted on the “system”. It was being sold for $1700 cad.

It would be nice to have some warranty, I would need to save a decent amount to be worth risking it. Hopefully they are available new or rebuilt. My coworker had to replace his GC zf and he could only get a used one.

What happen to yours that the insurance covered it?

You could check with these folks. They often have take-off transmissions...

Before you change the transmission. Do a fluid and filter change first to see if that makes a difference.

Another place to look for a transmission is America's Most Wanted. They should have them laying around from doing V8 swaps.

I would also do a fluid and filter change first before you jump right into the deep end.
If that doesn’t work you can search here: https://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.

I found many transmissions in New England for approx. $1.7k. I see one with 18k miles in New Bedford.

How are you out of warranty on time and mileage? It’s 5 years on the time. Are you sure you’re out on miles too? It’s 5 yrs/60k miles on the powertrain. I think it’s been this way for all model years.

I was thinking of getting it serviced first, i dont plan on changing it unless it gets a lot worse. It just looks like a lot of similar issues end in people needing to replace the transmission. I just want to have a plan if that's what ends up happening. If i didnt put so many miles on it in the last year id probably just trade it in and get another one.
