I've had the chance to run MTs and ATs on all of my trucks. The ATs rode better. But, our Jeep dealership here is having aftermarket wheels and tires installed on their JTs and JLs. They're putting on Mastercraft courser MXTs. My truck rides great, the tires aren't that loud, they're functional, they don't like mud, and they look aggresive.

Gladiator X-Comp MT's 35/12.50/20 . Just put over 700 miles on them driving back and forth from the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York to Boston. They road great , mostly highway miles. Road noise wasn't nearly as bad as some other MT's I've had in the past.No vibration or wandering all over the road. I do have a dual steering stabilizer which I'm sure helps.

I’ve been driving the Wildpeak AT3W 35s for just over a year now, on my JLU Sport S. I have zero complaints. I drive Colorado trails a lot. I do everything UP TO rock crawling. I don’t do that because I don’t have lockers and I’m running a basic Rancho 3.5” lift.

Now that said, the Falkens have taken EVERYTHING I’ve thrown at them. The toughest trail I’ve done is perhaps Illinois Gulch in Colorado. Though I avoided the hardest part of the Mini Moab part of that trail. The Falken ATs did great, even in all the mud I went through.

On road, the Falkens are great in the rain and surprisingly good in the snow. We had a bit of a blizzard in March that dumped roughly a foot of snow on us. I was out after the storm had passed and had little issue getting around.

Tire noise isn’t a big issue either. Frankly, you’ll notice the wind a lot more.

That said, I’m planning on ordering the MTs when I get my Gladiator. Mainly because I think they’ll be easier to sell when I upgrade to 37s. ;)

I ordered with Falken AT’s and purchased Falken 35’s in MT. My plan whether I actually do it... is to swap the smaller AT’s on for the winter.

I have run the Falken AT3Ws on my TJ Rubicon for the past year. They have received extensive usage in rain, dirt, rocks and mud and they performed incredibly.

That is crazy wide. What kind of offset are you running? That must throw rocks like a mofo!

Bumping this one.

Getting ready to order a '21 Rubicon and need to decide between the AT and MT.

I'm sure the AT will be fine for pretty much all I need to do but prefer the looks of the MT.

Should I go with my head and get the AT or follow my heart and get the MT? Is the increase in noise, decrease in mileage and wet weather traction significant enough to not get the MT?

I have the manual transmission Rubicon with the stock Falken M/Ts. They are great on-road and off-road tires. M/Ts in general have come a long way the last decade or so. I would also get them again. No hum on the fwy, corner well, wear well, and look great - they really change the look of the truck. As they wear out, 13K miles so far, only a little rumble when you come to a stop. Off-road, they are unstoppable. I have had them in Mud, dirt, rock, dunes, snow, etc... , and they were exceptional. Just manage your PSI correctly,.

I have run MT tires for years, because I always seem to end up in some serious mud at least a few times a year. For a decade or more I would typically switch from stock AT tires to Toyo Open Country MT tires. They were the toughest tire and gave the best traction I had found. Then in 2016 I got stuck in a one day old Power Wagon, wearing the stock Goodyear Duratrac AT tires, so after winching out, and on day two, I switched to 37" Falken Wildpeak MTs. I was surprised, because they worked as good off road as the Toyo's, but were better on road. In 2018 I bought a 2-door Jeep Rubicon JL, that came with BFG AT tires on it. I decided to just stick with AT tires this time and see how it went. Early last spring I ended up needing to cross a large valley in the desert to get to the closest fuel, with not enough fuel range to go around. The valley was ~30 miles across, and slick, greasy, sloppy mud, the whole way. What followed was 30 miles of sawing the steering wheel from full lock one way to full lock the other way, and the Jeep going from one barrow pit to the next, and not daring to let off the gas for a second, because you knew if you stopped you would never get started again. At that time I said to myself, "self, this is why you always buy MT tires, because you have done this too many times".
Fast forward to last week when I bought my Gladiator Mojave. It came with Falken MT tires in a 33" size, but I wanted 35"tires. I had the dealer swap out the 33s for the exact same tire in a 35s. I could have chosen any 35" tire when making the swap, but Falken MTs work well for me, so that's what I went with.

I went with the Yokohama X A/T. With rubicon takeoffs on my overland. So far real smooth and not a lot of road noise. Local tire dealer recommend them over BFGoodrich and other top brands
