I´m thinking about going portable with the winch for my JT. I had a cradle mount for a Warn winch and front and rear receivers on my 1993 YJ and it worked really well. I only carried the winch when on an off-road trip and left it and its weight at home for normal times in my AO. I am thinking of the same setup on the Gladiator. The big advantage is that I can pull from the rear when needed.

So the rear is no problem. Does anyone know of a good front receiver that does not impede the approach angle? Even a bumper with a receiver would be great, especially if mounted on top, as it was on my YJ.

If I can´t find a decent setup at a reasonable price, I will probably just go with a traditional front winch setup with a light bumper like a Rugged Ridge Arcus or something like that.

Any help is appreciated!

You can probably get a generic hidden 2in mount for the stock bump from Curt or whoever.

CURT 31086 2-Inch Front Receiver Hitch, Compatible with Select Jeep Wrangler JL, Gladiator less than $200

I had looked at this one on Amazon for a buddy, he installed it and works well. He is using it for the same thing - winch in the front and rear.

I have a Curt on my Mojave I guess it does reduce your approach angle a little bit but is up there pretty high…..Jack

That doesn't look too bad from that angle. Would you please send a profile shot? That might give me a better idea.

Thanks!

Not sure you could get it higher without fabbing something onto bumper, it fit and I have a winch plate in there and remote shocks, plus the outside ends of bumper are lower then center. Rated at 9,000 lbs. STRAIGHT pull, seems very beefy but pulling at a sharp angle might be an issue…..Jack

Pulling at angles is where all cradles fail miserably. I ran a cradle mounted winch on my XJ until the 1st time I got stuck climbing a very steep muddy hill. Wrestling that thing out of the back while everything else was trying to come out with it without falling down the hill and then wrestling it up and around the Jeep was more trouble than being able to pull backwards (which I can still accomplish with a snatch ring) was worth by a long shot and I hate the idea of not having it if the need suddenly arose. Built a winch bumper the following weekend and haven't touched a cradle since. We've even used the winch to right a truck that rolled on its side and was blocking both planes of the freeway with his trailer. Better to have it ready to use in a moments notice in my experience.

Sorry you didn't say your model
Sorry! I actually didn't think there would be a significant enough difference in the bumpers. Guess I was wrong.

Thanks for trying!
