This would be the logical conclusion for a dedicated rig or rock crawler with a high percentage probability of needing to use a winch and time was a factor. but I am projecting based on his response that he is using his rig with a much lower percentage of probability of using the winch and/or time is not a factor.
I’m guessing that is the base where the disconnect in responses comes from. the rest is just “normal internet stuff”

cheers 🍻🍿
I've used the winch at work when someone got stuck in a freshly graded potion of the site. We used the winch on the wife's JLUR on the middle of the I-10 freeway after a tundra towing a large rv trailer flopped on its side blocking both lanes. Righted the Toyota and trailer and got the freeway cleared before the 1st highway patrol was on scene. Neither of those situations had anything to do with wheeling and the winch would have been at home. The real world means being prepared for the just in case. I doubt the 60lbs is saving any fuel on a 5k+ pound brick so it's rather have it and not need it than the other way. To each their own.

All fair points, just some would choose to drive on, some like the “clean” look of not having it fulltime mounted there. Diesel jeeps are notorious for weight saving on the front end. Just one of the great things about jeeps, freedom to do whatever you want :)

Since the OP already dislikes my opinion, to me nothing looks goofier than a winch bumper with no winch. Just bolt holes where there should be a winch? Like you forgot something.

I have never used mine to recover the truck 😂 😬

I've used it to pull fencing out of a hedge row for a neighbor, pull cars onto car trailers, etc.

Here in Louisiana, likely to need it for getting stuck in a muddy yard - and knowing me I'd slip, fall, and crush my leg with a portable winch while carrying it from the bed to the front end to use it.

I like the 'idea' of a portable setup that I can move to different points, but my front bumper has a nice empty space for a winch to fit and not take up real estate elsewhere - and I went a relatively light weight way to do it.

Now - I would love to have a second, smaller winch that is portable that I could use in the rear receiver, attach to various trailers, my tractor, etc. THAT would be a handy accessory to have in addition to my permanent mounted front winch.

But each use case is different and I like seeing them all.

Agreed, I love hearing all the creative ideas on tackling different problems.
Maybe a 6k synthetic winch with a 2” receiver, 10k hitch pin and a 2:1 pulley block is the ideal setup for that. I like that concept for a 2nd winch

You are correct, his use case, lifestyle and work place vary greatly from mine. My situation does not require a winch for most of my Jeeps use, therefor I rather not have it on there getting destroyed by weather, being a target for theft or many other reasons that apply to me.

This setup was used on my XJ then moved to my JT. The configuration has been in used for 15 plus years and works well for me.

He has valid points for his use case, I take exception to his holier-than-thou approach, he applies to all his responses through out the forum. He doesn't know me or what I do so don't tell me i am wrong based on what he thinks is right. But as stated in other posts, that is the nature of forums and I should expect as much. Next time I guess I'll take the standard internet approach and tell him to fuck off and give a thumbs down response when he tells me my use of a jeep is wrong.

Yeah all fair. Only thing I’d suggest in concept is this setup is prone to failure caused by lateral deflection, so I would suggest reviewing your lateral stiffening of the hitch receiver and mount and/or carry 2 snatchblocks to rig it for straighter pulls, but otherwise 🍻

Valid, I am pretty confident in the female receiver mount, it's been bead welded along the receiver tube to the top of the bumper, bumper is 3/16 or 1/4" steel can't remember and the bumper top plate has a 90 degree lip bend that also stiffens the top plate of the bumper to keep it from deforming. The bumper top plate also has 2 gussets welded in that connect the bumper top plate to the bottom plate and are about 6" from the center of the receiver. This creates and nice boxed in solution.

The front of the receiver is also bead welded on all 4 side of the receiver to the front plate of the bumper, i just smoothed the welds to look nice.

Long winded to say I am confident in the bumper.

My concerns are more about bending the cradle male receiver tube. The back of the cradle sits about 2" from the bumper face so that can cause a moment load where the receiver and the tube are welded. My future plan is to reduce this gap to close to zero. So if bending starts to happen the cradle can press into the bumper face for more support.
