For those of us with STFA and future owners with this option I would like to share my recent experience that some may be having or will have. Our Gladiator TPMS sensors are coded with a specific message for STFA as I recently found out after purchasing new wheels, tires and sensors. Luckily the buyer of my OEM wheels & tires was kind enough to let me have them back so I could change out the sensors. I’ve also been told there may not be any alternatives due to such a small market at this time, therefore I’m suggesting anyone with STFA should remove their sensors prior to selling their wheels and tires if you want this option to work or purchase the ā€œcorrectā€ OEM sensors, if available. For what it’s worth my information came direct from a Jeep employee. Also just a friendly reminder you must activate the app by checking Tire Fill Assist in the Safety/Driving Assistance settings.

If anyone has any information ā€œPROOFā€ that contradicts what I went through or stated above please share as I know things tend to change and the information right now is sparse due to this being a new option.

You indicated in a previous post that specific sensors are required. Could you get the part numbers for both the STFA and the non-STFA sensors so we will know if. We. Have the right ones?

Thanks!
I know you didn't ask me but I pushed my guy at Jeep and he answered pretty quickly back.

My question
Question on the selectable tire fill. Will any sensor work vs needing to be the ones that ship with the gladiator. For example I have a set of jK sensors from 2016ish will they work?

His answer
No. Has to be JT sensors
They have a special message in them for STFA
2016 normal tpms will work but selectable won’t.

I would contact your local Jeep dealer for that info, I don’t have part numbers. If you get the part numbers feel free to add them here. If I get time I will also reach out to my local dealerships.

This all still seems crazy to me. STFA is software based and basically honks the horn when it sees the tire at a certain PSI. How could it read the PSI but not honk the horn when it hits said PSI. I don't believe there is anything special about the sensors, this seems more like oversight on a programming, or software issue. (ie, STFA basing it off a previously paired sensor, not finding the exact same sensor and thus not working) I'm curious to find out for sure, as I plan an keeping two sets of wheels and tires and it would be cool if the feature worked on both sets.

Any gladiator spec sensors have it.

Still seems crazy to me lol, but vehicle manufactures always seem to do crazy things. I think it was my old jeep grand Cherokee that had a $5 sensor buried in the engine somewhere. 8 hours of labor sure makes a $5 part expensive to replace.

That said, has anyone found some aftermarket ones that will work. I tried looking for Mopar OEM and it looks like they want about $80 each. Considering there are reports of a full set working with just the TPM system and not STFA for about $110, I don't think STFA is worth spending another $200.

JK sensors work. I picked 5 up off eBay for 35 bucks.

Just a hunch but it may possibly have something to do with the vehicle not in motion, correct me if I’m wrong but don’t the wheels have to be rotating for the TPMS to register with the vehicle.

Sounds like JK sensors win haha. Do you still have the link to the ones you bought. cheapest I found were around 80 for 4.

And I don't doubt the accuracy of what they said after seeing it, just saying its dumb. This could have easily been a software implementation, and instead they made a proprietary sensor that maybe costs them $1 more to make, and upcharge it to the customer for an additional $40.

I'm pretty sure its because the normal sensors don't really report unless it's rolling. Getting them to be live at rest for the process probably requires being told to update constantly for a brief period which the older sensors don't have the ability to be told to do so.

MY LE reports sitting in my driveway if I add or let air out and I don’t have STFA. I added air to my Grand Cherokee yesterday and they showed the change in the driveway as well. I don’t think the wheels need to roll.

I was airing up after a trail and I could watch the pressures go up on the gauge cluster as the compressor was doing it’s job.
