A question for EOC.
So when I was talking to Martin about a tune, he told me I was silly for suggesting to write out the swirl valves and throttle plate but he could do it if I really wanted to waste my time doing it. The reason he gave was negative impact on efficiency and possible smoke. A year later, I'm getting a P200B error and wish I'd had him delete those items from the tune.

I do like the idea of using the throttle plate as an anti shudder valve, closing when the engine shuts off to choke off the air supply like VW did on their early 2000 TDI engines. But I don't know if that's even a possibility.

So you may be more mechanically savvy than myself. But I've had my performance tune for about a year and when I purchased I asked if I could get egr delete kit and he told me it was stupid and go on there website now and it's "recommended". Guy's a total tool and patronizing.

Well, to be honest, the EGR delete kit isn't really necessary or useful if your coolers aren't leaking; it doesn't provide any benefit. When I talked with them, they said: "The only advantages to removing the components are that they can fail, causing a leak of coolant or charge air". So it is recommended for preventative maintenance, a waste of money if you ask me (fully recognizing no one did) until the parts need replacing.

I had my EGR coolers replaced under warranty shortly before the change and figured it would be best to hold off on that part until really needed. My system kept throwing the same emissions codes, which led me to decide on a change. No need to replace new parts, was my thought process, and if yours has not leaked since the change, then bonus: you did not "need" it. I get wanting to do things while in there, but they've just saved you time and money right now.

Again, just my 2 cents, not trying to argue or take a side, everyone sees things differently.

The EGR system introduces soot into the motor. One of the biggest issue in my opinion. I'd take the DEF system over the EGR if I had to choose.

For sure! But I think the debate was the physical removal of the EGR components after having them written out of the tune and how a certain French Canadian addresses people in condescending tones.

Yes, but not all tunes get rid of the EGR system.

While very true, it can be taken in different ways. The tune being discussed disables the EGR and uses a plug plate to block it off. So, technically, it does not eliminate the physical system; it blocks it. Then, separately, you can purchase a delete kit that will physically remove the system parts and install block-off plates in their place. The EGR delete does not affect the system either way; it just removes parts that may or may not fail later.

Then there are tunes that, not being discussed, do not turn off or disable the EGR.

And then, there is the discussion on how a certain company communicates, which can be construed as condescending. Personally, I think they are just foreigners who communicate differently from us Americans.
