what's your gap like.. and what's the non functioning weather strip for? I have excessive gap.. I can easily toss a hot dog in between the cab and bed..

That's pretty normal from what I can see. A more common issue seems to be a bed off center - mine is more to the drivers side. Lots of threads on the topic. It has to do with the manufacturer process and how they are centered.

My 2020 was perfectly centered and square on the frame. Those fillers actually filled the gap perfectly on both sides.
On my '22, the bed seems to be a tiny bit further from the cab on one side than the other, but looking around I can't really see the reason.
I know for GM, they want to reduce or even prevent the air getting between cab and box as it creates drag. On these, who knows.

I love that a hotdog is a unit of measurement. :)
Metric or English?
Bun length, plumpers, ballpark, or other?

The problem with leaves - they rot, they decay, they stain stuff.
They contain tannin - all plant matter does. And it stains.
It's a weak acid and extremely soluble - so don't leave the leaves in there.

The weather stripping is likely to prevent drag, sort of like the aero kits on the Semi Trucks. Likely does just enough to divert airflow around the front (cab side) of the bed to not create drag.

I thought it was to keep the leaves from blowing out. But, what do I know?

there is a huge difference between a normal hotdog, a Ballpark footlong and even a regular Costco hotdog, so kind of like a man's 6" and a woman's 6" ;).....so what hotdog are we talking about, lol

Clean the leaves out and next fall put a strip of foam (cut to fit from pipe insulation or a pool noodle) in the gap to keep out the leaves. It’s amazing how many leaves can pack in there!

It was very thoughtful of Jeep to put a full width shelf at the bottom of the cab to hold all those leaves, and line everything up just right so you can’t blast them out with a garden hose

We have a classy joint around here that sells a very large hotdog. The name of it on the menu is "the homewrecker"
