I've always done some sort of liner/protector with my beds, but never had a tonneau cover until now. Not using the truck for construction, but will constantly have box of tools, softball/baseball gear, camping and trail riding gear, ect. ect.. in the bed.

I'll have my tonneau cover, but exploring all the different bed protector options, care to give me your pros/cons of each?

Leave it steel- Already color matched, looks good, stuff will slide on it so it's not rough (could be good or bad), but no protection, will scratch eventually
Spray in Liner- Would like to color match if I go this route, but not sure about the color's resistance to UV, or even if that matters since I have a tonneau cover.
Drop in liner- Cheap and protects well against impacts, stuff slides easy too, but I know it can create rust/rubbing issues.
Bed Rug- Admittedly, I know very little about these. Just using logic one of the first things I did was put floor liners in the cab, so not sure why I'd put carpet in an area that is going to get MORE dirty, but if I'm not right about this I'd love to know.
BedMat- Cheap and easy option, would provide good clean protection

Other options? Understanding I could always do a spray in later after the bed is good and scratched (or even if I did a drop in and it rubbed the clear/paint, I could spray later. Any other options? Granite Crystal Metallic color if that matters.

Thanks!

I bought my 21 JTR just a few months back and the one thing I felt it was missing was a bedliner. I went straight to LineX and had them spray it with their base spray. I plan on a tonneau as well, so I can take luggage to the airport. Without a tonneau I would have gone with one of their higher UV protected sprays.

My wife looked at it and was like, that looks permanent! I'm like yes, my bed will never rust top down. I'm a big proponent of spray-in bedliners. I even Herculined the interior of my 95 YJ.

That was always what I was leaning towards. How is it getting stuff in and out of the bed with the cover on? Did you get the smooth spray or the textured spray? I'm thinking about accessing the back of the bed to get things that moved around and the textured liner.

Thanks, I actually just had that one pulled up looking at the Bed mats. Just making sure I'm seeing that right, it doesn't do anything on the sides, just the floor of the bed, right?
Yes sir, that's correct. It's molded slightly to fit against the walls and tailgate.

On my Canyon I had before my Gladiator, I bought a secondhand tonneau cover off a guy on those forums. He threw in a rubber bed mat for free because he was trying to get rid of it, otherwise I don’t think I would have gone out and got one, as my truck had factory spray in bedliner. Having had the bed mat for 3 years I’m 100% a fan. Even with the Bedliner, the rubber mat allows you to throw in and scrape around sharp and heavy metal objects that the mat soaks up, that may still scratch a bedliner. I’m definitely going to pick up at bed mat as soon as I can.

Spray in liner from factory, and when I get the JT delivered I'll be putting a rubber bed mat on it. Double the fun...

I have the Extang Trifold with a drop-in bedliner and it works great for me. As I've stated elsewhere on this forum, I like the fact that the corrugated plastic drop-in liner absorbs the impact when you're throwing really heavy stuff into your bed. I've had drop-in liners in every pick-up I've ever owned (that would be about 7-8 or so now) and I really like the way they work. Have not witnessed the rusting issue, ever.

I've had a drop in bedliner on all my previous trucks with no issues. This one came with the factory spray-in bedliner. I started with the soft tri-fold tonneau cover and eventually replaced it with a RSI SmartCap. I'm looking at a rubber mat to go in the bottom. Right now, it is full enough that I don't have to worry about things sliding around.

ok, let's start off saying i am CHEAP .. my new Nacho Freedom came with the factory spray in liner ... my experience with these spray in liners (wife's JT) is EVERYTHING slides around while driving ... so, i went looking for a rubber mat, not willing to spend another $100 for a rubber mat like in my wife's JT, i found this at Tractor Supply .. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...m-anti-fatigue-foam-floor-bs120d?cm_vc=-10005 ..... it is 46x93 .. slid it in length wise (wheel wells are 43") up against the front of bed, just let it fold slightly between wheel wells ... cut off the excess length .. works great and only cost $15 .... also have tri fold cover
