Bedliner or bed mat?

My new 2023 Glad came with factory spray liner which is nice. I ordered a highly rated bed mat that came shipped tightly rolled and would not lay flat even with weights on corners for days. Opted to return and try a DIY solution. Bought a 4x6 horse stall mat at a farm and ranch store. Trimmed to fit and it works great and best of all , it costs just $50. It is 3/4 inches thick and has one side with raised dots so water can drain underneath. Used a circular saw to cut the rubber. "I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning"

Think about all that added weight from either or both. Full bed rug, minimal weight added, washable and padded. CCC Weight comes at a premium in these things.

I have a new to me JTD Willys that I will add a folding tonneau cover to. I am considering getting a Bedliner sprayed in first or using a high quality bed mat (e.g., WeatherTech). I will use the bed to haul light building materials, yard waste, bags of mulch and other Harry Homeowner things. Any pro’s and con’s or recommendations? Thanks.

I vote for both, and have both. I zip tie my bed mat to the four corner tie downs: I have had bed mats try to leave at highway speeds in other trucks and it discourages those who would "borrow" it. Yes, moisture stays under the mat, that is why I spray lined the bed.

Nice. Did you have to stick it with Velcro or double sided tape? Or is it heavy enough that it won't fly off the bed?

The stall mat won't be going anywhere as it weighs around 46lbs. Yes it adds some weight to the truck which alters the VWR but it also benefits in snow travel. Thanks for asking .

I vote for both. My Ram truck has a spray-in bed liner and I put a bed mat on top. The liner protects the tailgate as well as the floor and sides of the bed but the liner by itself is too slick, stuff slides around on it. The mat keeps cargo in place, keeps sharp corners from digging into the liner, and also provides some cushioning when things get dropped.

I haven't gotten around to having a liner sprayed in my JT bed. I do have a bed mat to protect the bed and keep things from sliding around, though. It is heavy rubber. I don't think it moves around or damages the paint underneath but I guess it could if the bed wasn't clean first. I have a tonneau cover so moisture isn't usually a problem.

A little patience and maybe some sunshine but my thick mat eventually laid flat. It bothered me for a day or two and then I stopped paying attention to it. I don't know when or how long it took but definitely less than 2 months. Got it for Xmas. Bed liner to protect against moisture but it doesn't rain much here at all.

Which is light. Probably the weight of a small child.

If the weight of a bed mat or liner is too much for some they may want to reconsider carrying passengers.

neither one will have mattered when you trade it in for the next one.

I did it for me, not for trade-in value or for the next guy.

Both for me. Line-x within a week of getting the Jeep, then picked up a deezee bed liner that fits like a glove.

Prior owner Rhino-lined and put in a bed rug. It’s really a great combination.

When I bought my Gladiator, it already had the Mopar Spray–In Bedliner, but I just received the BedRug Tailgate Mat, mainly to protect my knees when crawling up on the back.
