I didn’t move the media port, but I did route a cable from the media port behind the HVAC console and UConnect screen, then cut a hole out of the dash tray and ran my cable to my phone mount there. Not as clean as installing a port up too but it’s way better than having a cable swinging around and I figured I’d have less issues this way. Can share pics later—took me about 45 minutes to do.

Yes, pics please. I’m having a hard time visualizing for some reason. Thanks.

I have a usb cable running down the unused passemger side sensor plate on top of the dash, down behind the glove box, across the front of the shifter and up the driver side of the console. Cable is almost all stealthed. Used a right angle adapter cable for the console usb so it is closer to the inner wall.

Took only a few minutes. Good solution for lazy people like myself. Haha

Here you go. You have to pop out the HVAC panel, unscrew the UConnect cover and pop it out, then unscrew the panel itself, but from there it's super easy to run a cable and you can access the bottom of the coin tray deal directly.

I've been using the center console port for Android Auto for three years. It is picky about the quality of the USB cable, and the condition of the port on the phone.
I've a wireless CarPlay adapter plugged into my center console USB port, and I've had very few USB issues with it. I'll occasionally have CarPlay adapter issues, but not USB problems.

NO, NO it doesn't. Not for most of us it doesn't! Never has, and Jeep has clearly stated they know it doesn't work and have no intention of fixing it!
Mine works flawlessly on my iPhone...

It's hit and miss for some. For most of those, a good quality cable has resolved it. The traffic through AA and CP is heavy and it takes a great connection to make either work right.
Also - USB is not USB is not USB.
Then there's the distance from the truck's hub - the cable goes back spanning feet to get to the console, then you add another cable to that extending the length more - the distance from the hub even more.......
Like Bluetooth, there are variations in how "standards" are applied. I ran into issues through my years in IT/networking.
Phones can matter, the software on the phone can matter, the connection wear and cleanliness can matter, cables are a huge deal.......... my wife found a cable at Walmart - she was needing one and came by with it in her cart. I saw the price and said - put it back - we'll get you a GOOD one.
There are so many variables and combinations of variables, just because one has it working great isn't any indication that ALL will see the same results, or that they have done things "right".

I've had good luck with AA after getting a really good cable, but I can't even see the worth of the port inside the console. I think that harkens back to the days when people wanted 3 million songs on a USB stick and didn't like it sticking out of the dash. My chevy had an in-console port and that's what I used it for.
But these days - with the micro-USB sticks that hold crazy amount of data but are small enough you can't see them in a dash port, or the ability to stick Sony's entire music library on a phone, I am not sure there's a lot of value in that in-console port these days. Besides, if you USE the console, it's a pain in the @$$ to access that port when you have STUFF in there, and then you have a cable dragged out across the truck cab.
I've frankly wondered about moving THAT port up to the top of the dash............ but I bet that would be a pain, too.

Which iPhone do you have ? Mine worked 100% of the time until I upgraded to the 13 Pro, now only the dash one works.
I have a Xs, and it works flawlessly. But I guess its possible they screwed something up since then. I plan to finally upgrade this year, so fingers crossed I don't lose the ability to do the below.

In my truck I have a cable coming out of the side cut out from the center console, leading up to the space between the 4x4 shifter and the automatic shifter. Plug in phone, pop it in that spot. I am using a 3ft OEM iPhone cable.

Edit: What's interesting is that you can set the primary port for smart phone connectivity in the vehicle settings. So it is weird that there would be any difference in port capacity between dash and console.

Likely signal degradation due to length - distance, possibly shielding, etc.

Like @Trailman, I have an X. I'll report back next month (if 14 is out) when I upgrade.

Mine is a complete junk pile on this. Tried 6 different cables that others reported success with. iphone XR, 11, and 12. Works for none of them. I have had multiple tickets opened, including Jeep Doesn't Care tickets. All they have done is wasted hours of my time and told me it is the phones and they have no intention to fix it. They advertise apple car play from that center console but for many many many many many of us that is a complete lie.

If yours works, you got lucky. For the guy going to upgrade his phone, it won't work with any of the newer phones.

Jeep knows, they just don't care. It isn't going to kill anyone, even if it was, it won't kill many people so why would they fix it? That would impact profits, and that can't be had in a modern corporation!

Trying to keep up with Apple's constant changes, both hardware and software, is nearly impossible.
I've been in the IT area for too long to blame Jeep for this one.
If Jeep (and it's NOT Jeep, it's the electronics vendor that makes the radio and software) makes it work for a brand new phone, there's a big risk of breaking it for older phones then those people will gripe.
We played hell trying to keep things working at work when Apple decided to roll out new software. More often than not Apple broke something else and 100 employees screamed because their phone no longer would do this or that.
If you want to blame someone, honestly, blame apple. but no, Apple users just won't do that because apple is the phone god.
HAHA - try to support a couple hundred i-phones each time Apple rolls out a fix or change or upgrade.
Been there.
Jeep doesn't create the hardware or software to make this work.

So if you apply these security patches - will things break? Likely........

Apple Inc. and a top U.S. cybersecurity agency are urging iPhone, iPad, and Macbook users and administrators to update their iOS software amid recently discovered security vulnerabilities.

“Apple has released security updates to address vulnerabilities in macOS Monterey, iOS and iPadOS, and Safari. An attacker could exploit one of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected device,” the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in a statement on Aug. 18.

Users and administrators are urged to review Apple’s security updates page and apply the updates—MacOS Monterey 12.5.1, iOS 15.6.1, iPadOS 15.6.1, or Safari 15.6.1—as soon as possible.

Apple released two security reports about the issue on Wednesday, although they didn’t receive wide attention outside of tech publications.

Apple’s explanation of the vulnerability means a hacker could get “full admin access” to the device.
