Best “water bob” for bed of Gladiator? Bulk water storage

I searched "water bobs” for my full sized truck a few years ago, and it seems in the reviews many of them failed.

Now I have a JT and want to find something that would best fit the bed and has a good survival rate. My brother-in-law uses one for the bed of his Ram 3500 truck to store water when he takes his fifth wheel camper on the road, but he bought his water bob some years ago. Recent reviews on it now weren’t great.

My intention is to have more available water storage at home as much as anything, as my area has begun water restrictions due to extreme drought, like many parts of the country right now.

Do you happen to live in Corpus? The lake is at 10% and the oil plants use over 50% of the water.

I may need to swap out the water tank in the RV so I may be looking at these even more in the near future.

As for home use, you may want to see if anyone is selling (or getting rid of) IBC tanks. I'm in eastern PA and can get them relatively cheap (gently used).

Burn bans are still in place, but I’ve had a recent look at a couple of the local lakes/reservoirs, as well as the primary river (Cape Fear) that supplies much of this area, and it’s not as bad as I was thinking it would be based on recent news.

If you’re looking to just haul as much water as possible many people like ranchers etc out West haul water in totes. You’ve probably seen them.

I had some friends out in the country use those. I had a large yard and a walkout basement at my last house. I had a rack system in the basement with 55 gallon food grade barrels, but once the wife and I downsized houses seven years ago about the most room I have is for a half dozen 7 gallon Aquatainers.

I got a little spooked when things started drying out last week like it did back in 2007.

…and so much for that rain we were supposed to get today. I’m in south Wake county.

The ibc totes are great for a stationary water station. Hauling/positioning them is a PiTA even if you have a forklift to move them around. If you have the space I’d suggest getting the totes onto a rack or a cistern type setup and then renting a small water trailer to transport bulk water. It’s more efficient and way less labor than an in bed water tank that has to be manhandled every time you need a fill up. Especially if this is for a backup water source type of thing. Out here in the sticks a lot of people put a 2500-5000 gallon water tank inline from their well to tide them over for a while if needed.

I have gotten some mileage out of all her “NO’s”.

I got a quote on a whole house generator about six years ago. They are kinda spendy, you know, like a Jeep.

Anyway, she put the kibosh on that, even after spending ten days in 90 degrees, nine months pregnant after Hurricane Fran rolled through here in 1996. Then we had an ice storm the winter of ’02-’03. No power for ten days. The house got down below 40 degrees.

So the next year after she squashed the generator idea, I starting shopping for another new Harley, without selling the one I had that was only 18 months old and paid for.

She said, “Another bike?! Why don't you just buy that stupid generator you wanted."

BINGO!!

And I still somehow finagled a way to buy the other bike I had been chasing for a year.

Nice!!!! I’m still trying to figure out the standby generator thing. We have a solar backup system but I want a small Kw output standby generator like that as a backup to the backup just to charge the batteries if needed. Very nice bike too!!!
