I'm getting ready to sell/trade or payout my 2022 Mojave lease. I know the negative equity compared to the 2022 fantasy residual value on the lease is going to hurt any trade options and my worst case scenario is I use the miles and return the lease 9 months early.

The final 3k miles will be a roadtrip from DC to Austin. So before I use the miles and walk away from it all:

Question 1: Are dealer trade values on JTs better or worse in SE, midwest or TX regions compared to mid-atlantic?

Question 2: Any recommended dealerships that could work to minimize the agony of a really bad lease (Ally bank)?

I sold my 23 Gladiator back in March and my wife just traded in her 23 Wrangler 392 in September and both times we got right at KBB values at the two different dealerships. I am located in the San Antonio, TX area. I don't really know how lease trade-ins work but if you are looking to just get rid of it you can play dealerships off of each other. That's what I did with my gladiator to get the dealership 5 miles from to me to meet the other offers so I didn't have to drive as far. Principle Mini & BMW of San Antonio, Nissan of Boerne and Ancira Jeep in San Antonio are the dealerships that I have worked with.

Another option might be for them to build you a new lease that will meet your needs this time. There are usually only a couple of types of leases. One is low payment vs. High residual cost, the other, high cost payments vs. Low residual cost at the end of the lease. Dealers are feeling the pinch right now and sales numbers are down, what are the chances of them unloading yours, quickly and for a profit? When you’ve got your go list of dealers you’re going to try to work with, internet each of them with how many JT’s new and used on their lots? That information will help on who to deal with.
Good Luck.
