Installed 285/75R17 Ko2s on stock 21 Willys wheels this week, slight rubbing on sway bar links at full lock. I havn't even done any flexing yet disconnected. This is with a level (around .5 rake)

How are you guys shoving so much tire with no rub?

Not sure if the Willy's has the bigger axles but the Rubicon, Mojave and Max Tow has the extended axles and that's how most of us aren't rubbing.

Makes sense. Willys does not have the wider axles.

285/75R17 Milestar Patagonia X/T's on stock Willys wheels. 1.5"TeraFlex levelling kit in front. I have not experienced any rubbing. I have tested it flexed, but don't use swaybar disconnects. For my purposes, it works great.

Makes me wonder why they don't ALL have the slightly extended axles. Simplify supply chain and production, about the same cost, etc. Is there any advantage to the narrower axles?

Same reason some manufacturers are charging for “subscriptions” so you can use things you already bought like heated seats. If they included the same width axles on all models they would not be able to upsell you or in the case of less mechanically inclined individuals…. Charge for the labor to swap parts. I don’t see any logical reason why Jeep would put the same axle options on all the models and then use a narrower version on some except to squeeze the working man for some cash.
Maybe narrower axles make squeezing through the pinch on Pinyon Mountain Trail easier…..

Basically it makes it worth getting the 4.10 gearing over the 3.73. You know you get the wider axles with the 4.10 gearing so your better set for 35 or larger tires. It's a way they can offer you a better built Jeep for going off road from the factory
